It's ironic, but HN is one of the most anti-startup communities out there.
I think because running a startup is well within the grasp of most people here, but there's a personal reason not to, and like religious or political beliefs, it gets amplified.
Nope, this is my only account (assuming you can trust anything I say). I signed up a while back when I was founding a startup company (because of course every founder needs to be on HN), but then stopped coming here after the startup disintegrated. I've started coming back after I got bored going to r/programming during long compiles.
HN has many different subpopulations and the startup founder subgroup became a small minority many years ago. There are probably more users here now who actively identify against startups than the other way around. Cycle of life.
While I can attest that HN has always had a significant amount of startup stuff, that was nowhere near the entirety of the site.
I remember when the front page was filled entirely with Erlang articles, for example, and I'm damn sure no more than a tiny fraction of HN was using or considering Erlang for production at that time.
I am glad I have never had this problem. I really dont care about HN @ all and just use it as a resource to learn from the same as TC and a plethora of other websites. I enjoy making things so thats what I do and the same goes for my friends. If you enjoy studying startups more than launching products etc... then perhaps you should shift your career in that direction.
It does allow startups, for example I link my stuff over there all the time. However, I'm not blatant about it and I have plenty of other content that is not startup related. You got banned because you didn't understand the rules of Reddit, it's the same as if you got banned from HN because you didn't understand the rules of HN.
