We don't change links like that because it's important for users to see what site an article is from. But it's ok to post workarounds in the threads, as you and others did.
This isn't really newsworthy - many such incidents have been posted on HN before, including DMCA takedown requests for content residing on IP address 127.0.0.1.

How can you cripple a popular submission like that? This amounts to censorship.
