But it is? They've now playing music and have clearly moved on from the Apple Watch part.

They did the same with Apple Watch. This isn’t new.

I think this confirms that Apple Watch has been a joke.

Yeah, the Apple Watch isn't even 10 years old...

And the watch is still tethered to the phone. We are a looooong ways from the iPhone not being Apple's most important product.

Haven't they moved away from this trend with the watch? I feel like it's way too customisable to be an Apple product.

I'm not buying one until Spotify has an app for it. I'm not switching to Apple Music just to get a watch.

Apple Watch is the new iPhone. The iPhone is becoming a home computer. Watch it.

I'd rather the Apple Watch replace the iPhone. Apple doesn't seem totally against the idea, but they don't seem to be in any hurry either.

True. But the iPod and iPhone were functionally very distinct from the Mac. The Apple Watch seems more like a convenient extension that eliminates the need to pull your phone out, but not much more than that, at least in its first few years of existence. Apple is clearly gearing it up to replace the iPhone, but that trajectory has been evolutionary, not revolutionary.

I completely disagree. This is not what the iPod Nano should be, that's just a stupid sensational news title. Maybe the iWatch, but the iPod Nano is an iPod, NOT a watch (core product).

Apple still sells the ipod touch for some reason. Its clear that they think that the Apple Watch + Airpods replaces the need for the traditional ipods.

And yet, everything i read about this product including this article, emphasis finition and crafting quality, as well as the numerous watch face, and not new revolutionnary functions.

Apple clearly wants to make you believe it is a watch, and that's why the called it watch instead of Band, or any other neutral names.

As someone who’s wearing an Apple Watch and listening to AirPods, I’m inclined to disagree that Apple’s ID is resting on their laurels.

Wonder why they uncharacteristically launched the Apple Watch in its current form, then.

I got an Apple Watch in 2019, and I don't wear it anymore. It was just another thing that needed to get charged every day, and none of the apps are very useful, and most of them are buggy and poorly supported.

I think Apple is struggling on trying to figure out what the next big thing could be - its definitely not yet watch and wearables.

tbh as much as I’d love to tell myself it isn’t - and I use my iOS (and now WatchOS) dev career to justify it - but the Apple Watch kind of fits neatly for me in this would-be category. It’s more cool and interesting than it is functional.

What part is Apple playing catch up with exactly?

Based on what I saw, Apple Watch seems to me, a lot more than just a notification device that Android Wear is.

Additionally, there's nothing in Android Wear that I've seen that focuses on the watch being, well, a watch. All the straps sucked, we don't know if the time is precise (this is the first thing Apple said about the Apple Watch), and most importantly, none of the watches out focus on user experience at all. They just wanted to be first out.

They aren't right, either. I wasn't exactly wowed by the public-facing announcements (other than the Siri-related stuff) but there's some nice stuff in the side sessions...and the Apple Watch is somehow the hottest product in both wearable devices and watches at the moment.
