And that I don't get to see the site as the original designer intended. It's of course perfectly fine for others to not care about that, but I enjoy it.
Then why make a site? That's like saying you don't want any photos of you to exist but you've been outside for years while people where making photos and now you're telling them to delete those.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but there's nothing wrong with being like that, right? It's not so much that there's nothing good to say - I just don't want to add to the clutter that already exists out in the web.
I just don't care about them. They don't harm anything, I just never really need a link to go back to the top of the page, so I barely notice their existence.
Exactly. I for one will be one of the people who will stop visiting the page altogether since it doesn't provide that much of a content for me personally.
I totally agree with your point. However, unlike you, I didn't click on anything because (a) my time is valuable and I can't waste it on a site which may not provide value to me and (b) I don't trust web sites which don't explicitly tell me what they do or have an obvious "About" link on the home page.
Please add a sentence or two at the top of the page to tell me your target audience and why I should use the site.
My website sucks, too. And you know what? I really don't care.
I'm building a secure backup service. I'm not building a website. After signing up and downloading the client code, there's no need for people to visit the website.
Yes, a website says something about a company. I'd rather have a website which says "I'm too busy writing code to make this look good" than a website which says "I care more about looking good than about the service I'm providing".
In this particular case it's specific resentment. I don't like it when people create websites that do nothing more than present content they've taken from other sites without permission in return for ad revenue.
Maybe people did not perceive whatever they viewed on your site to be worth anything to them? A visit is neither a sign of actual relevant interest nor an endorsement.
"If I’m browsing your website, any sharing feature or analytics script might seem useful to you, but it won’t make me visit you more often, or even less either."
I looked at your page and said, who gives a crap. Literally. That is what went through my mind. Why on earth would I use your service to 're-live the great times'. Why do I need your service? Posterous can do this for me. If I just have pictures, Picasa or Flickr. If you are offering value, you aren't making it apparent from the beginning. I spent less than 1 minute on your page and I doubt too many others would spend much more.
Hmmm I decided to spend more than a minute by clicking a couple links but I just get a 500 page.
This is my personal website. I also use it to showcase my photographs. I agree that they don't add anything to the content.
