No, saying snarky things about crypto is my hobby, not my career. My career is actually breaking these stupid systems.

sort by: page size:

Snarky is directed at the people who do proof-of-work cryptocurrency, not snarky directed at you. My bad for not putting a winky face or something.

Does writing blog posts making fun of people who get crypto wrong count as a hobby? ;-)

I believe that's more of a public service. :)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you don't get into cryptocurrency work to make the world a better place. Or rather, those that do should not be trusted around secure code. /snark

I'm also a classical violinist and play in a local (amateur but quite good) symphony orchestra.

I appreciate you're not a crypto fan, but must you post something snide under every comment chain in the thread?

A bigtime crypto hater.

The personal attack on me is unwarranted, rude, and wrong. I don't know a whole lot about crypto because it's not central to my life, and the things I do know about crypto (for example, that it's lousy with scams) haven't inspired much interest to learn more. That deserves a correction, not sloppy insults.

Maybe you thought I was someone else who deserved it more?

I appreciate you being willing to go find actual material to cite, though. That's valuable.

It's like I'm talking to a child when I talk to you. I wouldn't bother if you didn't constantly pop up to derail conversations about crypto with your "crypto should stay hard" attitude. I suspect you want crypto to remain impossible to get right just so you can continue to stay relevant.

The rest of my comment frankly wasn't for you, it's for the folks reading what you write and blindly accepting it. At least now they can see how petulant you can be when facing differing points of view.

Why would you make a personal attack based on a discussion about an industry? I didn't think this was a flame war, more a discussion about the crypto industry - I'm not upset, I'm just bored because I'm stuck in hospital with little to do. This is a tech forum, so is it not the right place to discuss tech industries and opinions thereof? I'm not even in the minority in thinking the crypto industry is unproductive and largely centered around scams and greater fool schemes.

I'm not sure what your personal attack has to do with this discussion - I guess you could have that opinion if you wanted.

I was hoping to be proven wrong, as I stated. But I admit my tone was a bit incendiary, even while stating that I am actually positive towards crypto.

(My dismissal was of the smart contracts of the OP, not crypto in general, which many commenters seem to assume.)

You really got me. I invented the word crypto and I'm the one trying to make those solutions illegal. Also, I'm Satoshi!!

Nope, I'm suggesting that a negative and hostile attitude, like the one exhibited towards the CryptoCat team by tptacek and others is not healthy to the industry.

Your last statement is exactly what's always bothered me about your attitude, and how it contradicts directly with the sentence prior.

I'm not going to give you a break so long as you don't give folks who are trying to create things a break. Bad crypto gets people killed, but no crypto does too, and perhaps your elitist attitude (and it's not just you, it's the community at large) is why we have only TrueCrypt and nothing else.

Just say crypto. Stop being a sarcastic ass and just say crypto

Really?? If that’s the case, you’re unbelievably bad at writing. And the silly head thing makes you seem unbelievably immature. Good for you - you’re bad at communicating and lash out like a child when you’re called out. You’re basically the stereotype of the average cryptocurrency user, and frankly dude, cats like you are why there’s no adoption.

You can’t just default to offensive and think people will trust your silly financial ideas. It’s usually the opposite. Good job promoting your ideas.

Lol, and you think your a 'big boy' with such a sweepingly ignorant attitude? Interesting.

I loath crypto, but I still did it for a couple years while they paid me in USD while I traveled to Asia extensively.

You got downvoted for apparent snark, but for what it's worth: me too. It's pernicious, too, because those comments can germinate in any thread involving money, banking, cryptography, and markets.

I guess am sorry that we ended up in bitter ends of a pointy discussion. For what's worth, I was not trolling. I stand by anything that I said (specially the "sprinkle of crypto fairy dust", which I have seen IRL more often that I wish). If I am ignorant or not, I am by definition unqualified to tell.

Other than that, if you prefer to have non combative discussions, please stop bossing professionals around and tell them what to do. Specially if they are not providing a service you paid money for.

Oh no the crypto bois are mad at me.
