I appreciate you actually trying my OS and leaving a comment. chvideomode really should work under VirtualBox. If there's a bug on my end, I would really like to fix it. Could you show up in #sortix on Freenode IRC for a debugging session?

I haven't been able to get chvideomode to work under Virtualbox. The OS itself is rather cool, I think I will try to write a simple graphical demo to try it out.

I haven't tested in Virtualbox yet. Would you mind either join our slack or creating a GitHub issue where we could provide better support?

Last time I tried it I did on a virtualbox VM and everything seemed to work.

I don't see anything in your link, by the way.

It is still in pre-release and being worked out. It doesn't run in VirtualBox or VMWare because there is no driver for video on it for the virtual machines.

Uh oh. I don't have a VM up and ready, but I'll check it out when I do. Thanks for letting me know!

Interesting, I think i will give it a try in virtualbox

Yes. I wish that VirtualBox would enable CMPXCHG16B unconditionally.

Yep, same here on Linux x64 2.6.31 and VirtualBox 3.0.12.

I was thinking about trying this in a Linux VM with VirtualBox, but maybe someone already knows why that wouldn't work.

Thanks I'm sticking to my Linux vbox at the moment but will try it out whence I move back to Windows.

Yeah I do; I've tried manually enabling that in the settings or leaving it at automatic, along with various different memory sizes, core/cpu counts, SCSI vs IDE hard drive, also tried Windows 7 x64 as a base, and both 2008 and 2008 R2, all to no avail. VirtualBox it is then...

Thanks anyway!

VirtualBox supports it, as does VMWare Player. There's a VirtualBox build for Apple Silicon, which might do the right thing.

I suppose trying this on VirtualBox (Win10 system) could be an exercise in frustration, but I'm tempted...

It works fine for me, be sure to choose guest mode though.

Virtualbox on a W10 host.

Cool. I wonder if it runs in Virtualbox.

VirtualBox doesn't. =/

Yes, if it worked. But unless they fixed it recently the Virtualbox implementation was super buggy/unusable.

I'm eager to try this, but can someone please confirm if virtual-box is working without issue?
