Could I ask what exactly is it that you do and how do you get on this path? I'm trying to explore options where I can work for US companies from somewhere else.

that sounds interesting, do you any potential openings outside the US? (i'd like to learn more about your work and potential options. could you please share a contact or email me at the address in my profile?)

This path is really appealing to me. Now, knowing that there is a demand for the people between the two worlds, I will spend some time looking for offers, and prepare a CV accordingly.

Moving to US seems a bit harder, but I wouldn't mind if I achieve this in the long term.

I have the exact same question, I'm applying to US based companies right now but I wonder is this even possible ?

Thanks for this a lot! I'm planning to move to USA when I can and this helps to see the whole picture.

My best bet would be a company that really wants me to work for them and arranges all of this.

Yes, I'm outside of the US, making 100k+ working for a US company, using my favorite language (c#). The company hires people from Europe, Asia, South America, wherever there's talent.

Wasn't me, but a friend of mine worked from Germany for a couple of years. He worked for a company in the US that had offices throughout the world (it was a shipping company). A bit of his work involved working with other teams, so he had a bit of insight into those teams. He noticed that there were openings for positions similar to his in the foreign offices and reached out to the managers. He had to prepare a CV for them, but he was able to transfer there relatively easily.

How hard is it to work internationally like that? I'd imagine its especially challenging to hop between countries unless you work for yourself.

Mind sharing what company? Trying to apply to international companies that wouldn't mind sending people abroad.

I presume working for US companies?

Try one of the contracting companies (I know Epam hires a lot of Europeans), and they will contract you out through them to American companies. You’ll probably still get a local-based salary, but you can start building up some experience at global companies. From there it’s up to you how you want to leverage that experience. They do also try to relocate you with a L-1 visa if need be.

I'd like to do it — do you have any ideas for finding good jobs overseas? Something like Hackruiter for Non-US companies?

I just have a company in Poland, sign a contract with US company and send them invoices every month (which, to my knowledge, they don't really always even need?). I don't know how it's set up on their end. No one yet has asked for a US-based entity.

As to finding them, I've found some here on HN in Who's Hiring thread. One of them (I'm a notorious job hopper, so there were many) found me on LinkedIn.

I don't want to go back to school now, I am tired of that. How about working for a US company outside of the USA, before to move within the company ?

Learn a language where you would like to go. Find a job for a US company that has an office there. Best of both worlds.

Very cool! If I were US-based, I'd apply for a job :)

Are you hiring outside of US?

Are you open to relocating to the US? I'd be happy to chat with you about openings.

I'm curious too. I live in New Zealand. How can I get a software job abroad - say in the United States?

Does anyone work at or know of any companies looking to hire U.S. citizens to work abroad?
