Though quite a long read, the feature WIRED did on the story of Silk Road [0] talks more in detail than this article about the FBI's infiltration and takedown of the site. Great read!
While downvoting this is warranted, this is certainly true. To catch up on the biggest news that has come out of Bitcoin, I'd suggest reading on 'Silk Road' and Ross Ulbricht. Wired has a very good 2-set long form on this[1].
If you don't want such a verbose story, Ars Techica follwed it well too[2]
The evidence was severely tainted by the investigators who helped themselves to the proceeds of the crimes. None of this was permissible in court, the defense barely got a hearing.
The story will come out in full one day and we'll all be shocked!
"His roommates thought that the guy named Josh, who had answered their Craigslist ad, was a currency trader. They did think it was weird that he had no cell phone, paid in cash, and was always on his computer."
Its an ongoing saga. There were some "hitmen" he hired on the site. They ended up being scammers but they arrested one just 6 months ago..
The Silk Road reference--is he saying he was working for Chinese interests? Where was the sensor data coming from?
I understand it's probably a painful story to tell, but a lot of little details are missing here, and they'd probably help both the author's friends and new readers like me understand what happened.
