I don't think you are going to change his mind, he seems very set on it.

You aren't going to change his mind. What needs changing is his heart.

What gives you the impression that he will refuse to?

Wouldn't be too surprised if he changed his mind since then. He is in a very different position now!

There's just no political upside to backing down at this point. It won't win him support and might cost him some.

So why would he change his mind? There's nothing to gain.

I don't think that's what he wants.

He doesn't want to sacrifice anything or changes that will affect him personally.

Man you really destroyed that guy

Wonder if he's gutsy enough to change his mind.

It's not like they're forcing him to do it. He could just say "no"...

Oh please, let him decide that.

He deescalated and they don’t want him to suddenly change his mind

Isn't that what he said? He won't.

He's never been vocally against either one. He has been asked about it and has suggested that he is considering it and recognizes that a lot of people think he should, but has never said one way or another.

I think at this point the right thing to do would be for him to turn this down.

I don't think he should reject it. Rejecting it would be an insult and spur unnecessary controversy. He should accept it with grace and move on.

Maybe he's trying to make a commitment he will be held to.

I believe he's saying that he'd love not to.

I'm sure he'd prefer not to.

What does he have to do to convince you?

Not having decided what he wants may be part of the question.
