about: Engineering Manager for the Seattle branch of Google's Kubernetes and Container Engine (GKE) team.

Previously, I was the overall technical lead for Google Compute Engine's initial public launch; also lead the design and launch of its second-gen VM instance manager subsystem.

And before all of that, ran a research lab at Stony Brook University [1], but I'm a reformed academic and prefer building real systems now.

Yes, we've heard from a number of people who want that and will improve regional support.

Current ideas are either a single regional cluster or via federation of multiple zonal clusters.

See eg https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/kubernetes/blob/maste... for an proposal on the latter.

Disclosure: I work at Google on Kubernetes.

We're really excited to be announcing this support, it makes multiple zone Kubernetes really straightforward. Please let us know what we can do better!

Glad to hear GKE's working well for you -- thanks hosh and whalesalad!

We do invest a lot in making Google Container Engine a great experience, including integrating it with other parts of GCP (e.g., IAM [1]), but at the same time, the core is plain vanilla Kubernetes.

We, unfortunately, don't talk about plans for Google Container Engine (GKE), but given that this is already available in Kubernetes, I'll let you jump to conclusions :)

Stay tuned!
