It does seem like hubris to think we’re anywhere near being able to design a protein synthesis process that’s more efficient than a soy plant.

No, its only negligible for small molecules. Making proteins/biologics is much more expensive, and this is where many new drugs are headed. Plus the investment required to design the process and build facilities is far from negligible either.

The main thing they talk about is a back glass that I will immediately hide by putting it in a case because I cannot hold on to such slippery devices.
