"Tech" is not technology. Nobody hates TCP/IP or neural networks. What people rightly fear is unaccountable power held by software companies.

If you are an engineer, you can help by respecting the people who use what you build. Show people the content they want to see, not the content that maximizes revenue. Refuse to experiment and collect data without the informed consent of the people you target. Build systems with the knowledge that every centralized service will eventually be compromised. Even if it's harder to build, harder to debug, and harder to monetize, build technology that is "good" instead of "evil" and the world will be better off.
