This person will be a technical leader in foundation engineering. They aren’t expected to create new technologies or solve hard technology problems per se (not inventing the light bulb, writing a codec, or designing Cassandra); but rather, to tackle the hard rollout of significant shifts in technology approach to have multi-year organizational impact. This often requires identifying e.g. the 3 changes we need to start today in order to be prepared in the future, and giving people a clear path to execution.
