This is actually quite doable. I have been binge watching all the overlanders or asphalt nomads on Youtube that have converted buses, box trucks, step vans and other things into really nice, well insulated, energy friendly mobile homes. Apparently all you need is a legal domicile, a place that you legally register as your home state. If anyone could make an amazing energy friendly bus conversion, it would be Elon. He could travel anywhere and call it home. He could park on any of his business properties. Have Tesla made a bus or mobile home yet?
It's doable even if he didn't have any business properties to park and sleep at. There are national chains such as Cracker Barrel that allow overnighters in their parking lots as a rule.
I think Elon is probably first in line to get one of those Cybertruck RV concepts.[1]
Rent costs is the primary reason I hear people stating they changed to RV's, vans, buses. They can live anywhere, including some of the most beautiful parts of the country, then leave if they do not like it. So no rent, diverse scenery, meet many new people if you want or live in isolation if you want. BLM land is unrestricted for this purpose in most of the U.S.
