That's true when it's a high cost move like leaving the US if the other party wins the election. I've heard D's and R's both say that and they never do of course. But this is a pretty cheap move.
I don't know if I am doing something differently than everyone else, but I notice virtually no difference between my Twitter feed currently vs. three months ago.
Like the post said, this isn’t the first time Elon has acted this way. He posted the same sort of stuff years ago, also on Twitter. People who ignored him then can ignore him now.
But, just like when certain Twitter users enter public office, Elon being the CEO of Twitter has shined a giant spotlight on him, even outside of Twitter (like this very post we’re commenting on). Elon hasn’t changed, and honestly, not much of Twitter has either. But, by using Twitter, you are ever so slightly increasing the ad revenue the company receives. If that’s not something you can stomach, leave. If you don’t care, stick around, not much will change. Up to you. The author of the post is in the former group.
My timeline has just been all about Musk, I hide posts and so on but it's no use. He wants to be the main character and people are giving him attention. It's annoying and I have not that much interest in it.
People hate on Mastodon but there you can actually find insightful content with hashtags and see what you want, I spent a good amount of time curating my twitter TL but I don't see much use in going there right now. I don't preach to just migrate to mastodon or other places but Twitter seems like it has run its course, for me at least, I hope it improves since there used to be a lot of great content from developers once you block/mute people playing the algorithm.
Additionally I'm getting DM requests all the time from bots, today alone I got 3, I don't understand what's happened.
The OP made a statement about the contents of their feed, not about content they don't see. If they don't follow neo-nazis or people who would retweet a neo-nazi, it's very easy to believe that one being unbanned makes no difference on the content they see.
I have never organically seen an Elon Musk or a Donald Trump tweet. Or frankly any neo-Nazi tweets. Like I said maybe I’m doing it differently than everyone else.
I think it's probably pretty dependent on who you follow and how you interact. I'm not tweeting anymore, but still have my account (I harbour some vague hope that it'll eventually do a Tumblr and get resold to some more competent steward). My timeline has gone pretty quiet, and pretty meta (a lot of it is _about_ Twitter). There's a lot more random crap suggested than there used to be; I'd say at least two thirds of my feed is suggestions or "[someone] liked". Until I blocked him, Elon tweets were inescapable (I'd never followed him, but til recently he never made frequent enough appearances on my timeline that I felt the need to block him). The ads have gone very gambling and crypto-oriented (though, interestingly, right now they're not appearing at all).
All in all, it is not what is was; on the contrary Mastodon has gone from a ghost town to having most of the stuff I liked from Twitter; in many ways it's the Twitter of 15 years ago, and that's largely a good thing.
Why I'll say it is best time to join twitter, i know Elon makeing chances so fast and it's scary but twitter is best for writers and content creators! It's gonna grow only from now on
On the upside, Twitter has reinstated scientists talking sense about Covid. I may not agree with everything Elon but I welcome this new wind of change.
But why were you on Twitter in the first place? I’m deeply skeptical of people who believe that Twitter was a great place to be, right up until the moment Musk announced he’d buy it. It was always something of a cesspool, and was a vehicle for political extremism of all shades.
It was far from perfect, but there were many people there who cared and was working to make it a better place for everyone. Musk throw all those efforts out of the windows, brought conspiracy theories front and center, let banned people for violating Twitter's own rules get back, etc. There's no hope of improvement anymore.
I honestly don’t doubt that the employees at Twitter had positive intent, however I don’t see that they were being effective, nor did I have any hope that they would be able to improve things.
Whether or not this was the goal, it was clearly not being achieved. Twitter has been getting worse for almost 10 years now. Will it get better now? No idea, but it wasn't getting better before so...
> It was always something of a cesspool, and was a vehicle for political extremism of all shades.
Exactly. They should have left years ago since Twitter has always been an outrage machine and a bot laden cesspool riddled with CP spreading on the site. Still, many refused and tolerated the peak outrage for decades with no change.
Those who want more extreme content like that are free to go to their own federated echo chambers if they want to. Just not on Twitter anymore.
My favorite part is that Elon's follower count has only been increasing since he bought the platform despite his many public admissions that most of those accounts are bots. notice how when he bans bots from posting he doesn't delete the accounts so his fragile ego won't be hurt by losing followers
They should have left Twitter years ago, instead of tolerating the eternal outrage, CP being posted on there for decades.
The total and immediate collapse of Twitter has been greatly exaggerated as such, they even created a 'days since bad news' schadenfreude page at https://twitterisgoinggreat.com
Twitter being still alive for the 200M+ daily active users and for the screaming minority complaining and coping around its immediate collapse 'any minute now™' stories.
Please continue to have Twitter rent free in your minds.
Noone knew it at the time of purchase, it turns out CP was everywhere on Twitter and executives bizarrely didn't care at all about it, but Elon heroically stopped it. Turns out Twitter was the real Comet Ping Pong.
Well the authorities in India saw it as a problem [0] and especially in the US that Twitter can be and is getting sued for failing to take down CP content [1] as they already benefitted from it. [2]
"It was predictable that Elon Musk’s Twitter would become an unhealthy environment, but it was surprising how quickly it deteriorated. This, added to the despicable, sometimes criminal ideas of its new owner, leads us to the only possible outcome"
How many biases and fallacies can you spot in the opening paragraph?
No need to read further.
You know, I don't do twitter. Just tested it for about 3 months eons ago, but put 512 bits of /dev/random into my password, because it was redundant.
IMO all the howling and crying which is heard now, comes from brainwashed and stupid people. Which may die in a fire, or something like that.
IT MAKES ME SMILE! :-) Create your own safe-spaces and enjoy the echoes of emptiness. What's happening now is good. Like judgement day. You have been judged to be the useless shit you are. Deal with it.
Yes, I actually mean that.
shrug
Edit: The Schadenfreude is the best I've got out of Twitter, ever!
