And yet it costs the equivalent of US$400 in my country to add another 16GB of ram to a macbook pro configuration.

$400 for 16GB of ram that Apple is willing to warranty for 3 years.

Try pricing a 3 year OEM same day replacement warranty for any memory product in your country.

You have to pay extra for the warranty. Apple has always(?) gouged on RAM and disk upgrades.

Like I said, price it out, including all surcharges, and compare it.

You're making the claim, so you should price it out and show it.

What claim?

Try pricing a 3 year OEM same day replacement warranty for any memory product in your country.

Can you point out specifically what claim you believe is made here?

If you weren't making a claim then what were you saying in the first place?

That you should try and compare?

It seems very clearly and directly spelled out. Is there some word you don't understand how to interpret?

I compared them and you were very wrong

Okay so can you post it here, instead of this roundabout discussion?

You suggested a comparison, so show your comparison.

If this is some kind of weird game I would feel quite cheated out of my time. But just in case you genuinely forgot how English language discussions work:

The previous comment:

" CyberDildonics 8 hours ago | root | parent | next [–] | block

I compared them and you were very wrong. "

Is something not said by me, MichaelZuo, but by a user named 'CyberDildonics'.

This is what you said. You're implying something here but you won't back it up with a link.

Every passing reader on HN can see this above:

"I compared them and you were very wrong. "

Followed by my direct question. Deflecting yet again, from your own point, makes this comment chain look ridiculous.

If your not going to genuinely engage then I'm moving on.

Where does the expectation come from to make a claim and then tell other people to prove it for you?

After reviewing this account's comment history I would hesitate to consider it a troll or meme account, but it's difficult to believe someone could be this confused.

"I compared them and you were very wrong. " was not written be me, MichaelZuo.

I would recommend stepping away from the computer if your genuinely unsure.

All I asked was for you to show why you were saying what you originally said.

Try pricing a 3 year OEM same day replacement warranty for any memory product in your country.

So price it and link it. This isn't difficult, but for some reason you say 'go prove me right' instead of just proving it yourself.

It seems like you'll do anything to not back up what you say. Just link something, link anything to illustrate what you originally said.

No, you made this comment: "You suggested a comparison, so show your comparison."

AFTER the comment "I compared them and you were very wrong.",

AFTER I directly asked you about it:

"Okay so can you post it here, instead of this roundabout discussion?"

There's no possible way for you to avoid this fact. Trying just makes this comment chain look more and more ridiculous. So I'm going to bow out here, I've spent more then a fair share of genuine effort.

Link literally anything that explains why you originally said what you did. Any amount of evidence, anything at all.

No idea how you get the 3 year warranty and $400 for 16GB together.

If the memory modules fail prematurely they can be replaced free of charge. There is some non zero value in this guarantee. These are commonly understood to be part of a 'warranty'.

Where did you get 3 year warranty, that is the question. Standard warranty on Apple are 1 year.

The standard warranty is not 1 year in all countries.

Anyone can verify this via a quick search.

But in any case I never specified 'standard warranty' only 'a warranty'.

Anyone can verify this via a quick search.

So do it

I am not even sure if he is trolling or not.

>But in any case I never specified 'standard warranty' only 'a warranty'.

I am not even sure if you are trolling or not. There is not such thing as Standard Warranty or Warranty. You either specify AppleCare+. Or you have Standard Warranty of One year.

>The standard warranty is not 1 year in all countries.

Standard on All Apple products as commonly known. And cases of extensions in EU are via Law. You are the one who have the prove yourself. And you have not done so.

>Anyone can verify this via a quick search.

And if you can do a quick search why not post a link ?

More info: I ended up getting a ThinkPad which has one free SODIMM slot, and buying the extra 16GB from a local supplier. The RAM upgrade Cost about 1/10th of the Apple charge.

It was annoying that the machine only had one slot, and one soldered, limiting the max dual-channel RAM I can upgrade to 32GB. The max installable is 48GB on this machine.

Of course the apple RAM is on the package with the CPU. Why are on-package RAM upgrades so limited? Similarly why are NVidia graphics card RAM not available in larger sizes?
