Sci-fi or not, it doesn't matter!

I believe we'll see the ability to print silicon chips and PCBs at home, and single board micro-server racks.

view as:

Biotech-driven technologies in so many ways, exponentially and combinatorially explosive and mind-bending. Design and grow your living home. Have your gut biome become smarter than you. Effective age reversal. Agricultural foodbelts rewilded into prairies.

That's the reason why I am doing a BSc in molecular biology in my 30s. The gap between possible and realised is just so unbelievably huge.

MIT is doing work on programming languages for molecular assembly I believe, very interesting.

1. Remote work technology, like multiple screens, cameras, mics, speakers, the simulate being at the office. (Not VR goggles).

2. More efficient, cheaper home solar panels, battery wall, EVs, heat pumps, to achieve net zero at home.

3. AR glasses that are not nerdy, and actually useful in the real world.

4. AI technology that fact checks every social media post.

Depilatory masks

Edible boxes.

Algorithms to review and edit bloated designs, e.g. the ridiculous bloat of features available to the driver of a new automobile.

A merging of our device OSs. Right now our watches, phones, computers, tablets and TVs are different systems (even within the Apple ecosystem but imagine having a Fitbit, Android phone, Macbook and Samsung TV..)

Never gonna happen.

Unless the world approves and agrees to support monopolies

There is a hi chance that one or both will happen in 50 years, and this is gonna be real revolution, not this gpt/blockhain scam:

1. Controlled thermonuclear energy (bye oil, hello new crysis in eastern oil backed countries)

2. New type of batteries (hello flying drone taxis, bye old cars, planes and ways of transportation, bye ineffective “alternative” energy)

i think the 'gpt scam' that you alleged will likely turn 50 years into 20 years. year 2023 - gpt4 launched year 2030 - AGI or sth equivalant launched and can create new knowlege and invent new tools at an astonisng speed year 2040 - you will have 1 and 2 and much more

I bet today’s 1000$ there will be no such thing as AGI in 50 years.

Unless the definition of AGI will be bent to fulfill the craving.

Well , can you really define AGI? Doesn't your definition of AGI change? Tons of people would already regard gpt4 as AGI ( though i think it is definitely not yet). We humans don't even fully understand our own intelligence and conciousness. We can't really define our own intelligence in a definte way. eg If your definition of AGI is it has a soul like some belive we are , then we will probably never have AGI as it can never be proved. For me, if an 'AGI' can have human like general behaviour/intelligence of better-than-average humans than it qualifies as AGI. I don't really care it is just statistics deep down just like we are just a bunch of molecures connecting to each other in some particular way.

That's the point! Until we define the intelligense - we'll keep cargoculting next fancy neural network as a miracle.

Technology will take a backseat in societies, people will be more skeptical of technology instead of being optimistic about their impact.

Just like we've become skeptical of new medical procedures, drugs or products, we'll become skeptical about the supposedly beneficial impacts of technology on society and nature.

We'll reason about the second and third-order impacts of our behavior and try to change them accordingly, helping each other along the way.

This is pure fantasy but wouldn't it be nice.

Various carbon-silicon fusion technologies, eg growing GPU's in your garden

> next 50 years?

it's strange to see this question in the gpt era.

well, how about a jinn that is able to construct a seed of a self-replicated spaceships with a warp drive while you're drinking your coffee? ;-)
