This tweet reads like the plot of a bad dystopian sci-fi novel.

(fixed it for you)

Unlimited? So I guess they will drop the requirement to be logged in...

This is so sad. Twitter was interesting enough, and even when they added unwanted features, it remained "Twitter". This pivoting to a dystopian sci-fi product (that it is not even clear what will do or try to accomplish) will make it dissapear. I wonder how many "new people" (not users) Twitter got in the last time... I am sure all the new accounts is people with other accounts...

PS: Also, how are they going to name the videos uploaded to this new platform?

> [H]ow are they going to name the videos uploaded to this new platform?

They'll call them something cute a la Reels. Or maybe they'll even resurrect the Vine brand (I assume they still own it?).

Perhaps they can call them XVideos

The everything app, China-style.

Big ED-209 vibes from this

I've been trained for two or three decades that "X" means "close"...

And soon enough that training will pay off!

Sure, whatever.

I wasn’t optimistic when Musk took over Twitter but I was interested to see what he’d do with it. This however is just dumb. Dumb nonsense piled on top of meaningless jargon from a man who thinks he can just will an American WeChat into existence through sheer hubris.

It won’t work but it isn’t even going to be an interesting failure.

American WeChat already exists. It’s called the iOS App Store.

I thought this was a revenge play for Musk and he planned to destroy it. He blamed Twitter for his child at least he really seemed to leading up to the purchase. A bigger Hulk vs Gawker.

But even a degraded social media platform is more powerful than owning an entire sports league.

It has been interesting seeing the people who were brainwashed for the last decade waking up to see the ground truth though that Twitter isn’t real life. It’s a lot like alcohol, your problems will still be waiting for you when you sober up.

> He blamed Twitter for this child.

Could you pls explain what you mean? Thanks.

Terrible autocorrect.

So, he blamed Twitter for his child?

Still puzzled.

For them being transgender.

And that happened because of Twitter ??

No it's not a revenge play. A single letter domain is worth a king's ransom and this particular letter lives in his head rent-free; he wouldn't drop that anywhere just for nothing. Elon is obsessed with the mythology of X and wants to build an empire. He wants to own transportation, energy and communication and build some backbone to digital society.

> In December 2017, X.com redirected visitors to The Boring Company's website, which Musk also owns. This was done in order to advertise a hat sale.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/X.com

A sale on hats is his bar.

Ok, but the counter-narrative is that he's apparently prepping twitter for sale, by making it lean.

He is happy to goof with his things (hat sales), but he's not about to let x.com go away for peanuts, is my point.

I haven't heard about selling twitter. It seems weird to me. I would think that the twitter brand is worth more than just a single letter domain name.

Of course it is. People claim Elon never wanted twitter, and that he was interested in trimming it up and selling it. It's my view that now that he has mated it with his beloved x brand, this is just not the case.

> It has been interesting seeing the people who were brainwashed for the last decade waking up to see the ground truth though that Twitter isn’t real life. It’s a lot like alcohol, your problems will still be waiting for you when you sober up.

Exactly. We have not learned anything once again. Drinking a different brand of alcohol is not quitting the addiction and outrage, so replacing a social network like Twitter or migrating to another social network isn't the solution.

It is just a stop-gap temporary solution before the nastiness arrives. When more people start discovering a new platform, the outrage will inevitably manifest and continue from there, bringing in all the same problems with the added dopamine addiction.

Deleting all social media accounts for good is the proper solution.

I think it's very possible that Elon is doing whatever he feels like it. X.com used to be his old company that merged with paypal.

The Occam's Razor is that he just likes the name X.com.

I mean he's still a weirdo but he probably isn't putting much thought into any of this.
