Roads are for bikes.

Probably this: https://twitter.com/vinniequinn/status/506116655983099904

I cycle along there regularly and actually keep to the paved section because it's smoother.

Thanks that's an interesting link. I think it backs up what I'm saying though, even with a fantastic cycling infrastructure, hills half the number of trips by bike.

they have the best cycling infrastructure, they are called roads.

I think the author is trying to say that half is cycletrack and half is what we'd think of as sharrows. He's not saying 50% of roads have cycling facilities, but that of the roads that do have cycling facilities, there's an even split between integrated and separated variants.

cycling on cobblestone sucks though, so not sure how that really works out :P (Let's assume there's no dedicated cycle path next to the cobblestone road, guess it depends)

Ah, by "on the road" I meant out and about, not specifically on the street. By "cycling infrastructure" I meant separated bike paths and lanes.

The Mail article of course ripped off as usual; check the timestamps against the Guardian article posted earlier that same day.

Also interesting is what, if anything at all, has happened since that news, over three years ago, about rediscovered 1930s cycleways.

pretty sure that extra path was carved for/by bicycles

I think this blog goes into more detail: https://blog.waymo.com/2021/06/beyond-the-bike-lane.html

cycle.travel prefers paved surfaces but will route via (good) unpaved surfaces if it'd save a long detour or avoid a busy road. It highlights unpaved sections in green so you can easily drag the route away. Alternatively, bikeroutetoaster.com has a paved-only routing option, and maybe gpxeditor.co.uk too, though the sites can be a bit flaky.

Interesting. As a cyclist I guessed the cycle path/footpath pattern.

I'd noticed the other markings before though.

Thanks for that link. I'm just starting to explore the biking roads around here and the history is interesting.

>endless bike parade

This would be the first time im hearing about something like this. It sounds like the bike path was very successful.
