He must had a hard time figuring it out when he first encountered the problem..

sort by: page size:

Might not have been easy depending on how many other things he had to test before he found this error.

It took this guy a year to figure this out?

I have a feeling that it wasn't exactly problem-free for him.

I'm guessing this fellow is just a little different, and very very stubborn. That might also be the reason he solved the problem.

It probably wasn't his first pass at the problem. :-)

Interestingly enough, he apparently had issues understanding how integration by parts worked.

Depending on his method, he probably saw the problem immediately when he got to the last layer.

This makes me sad, if the guy figured it out on his own - I don't see what the problem is.

I showed him the exact problematic line, but he didn't seem to understand it. same thing happened previously.

It's nice for him that he found out what was wrong with it, but I am still none the wiser.

If he was an engineer I would completely get it they he went the hard, unexpected, convoluted way.

I think that sometimes the obvious solution does not work out that well.

> He's fixed it now. He has no idea what was wrong or how to arrive at a solution. Next time he faces, even the same problem, he'll be back on Google trying his luck.

Do it enough times and you will start to see patterns and gain an understanding - I would hope.

"You just can't imagine how frustrating it is," he said, looking up at the ceiling, as if trying to make sense of the ceiling tiles. "I keep looking, but there's just no answer!"

This would be my worst case scenario.

It might very well be his setup that's causing the problem.

I don't get it! He complained that it was malfunctioning but he continued using it?

Well, the problem was the unstable branch. The general case larger problem was that he wasn't paying attention to what the hell he was doing.

Oh yeah, hi BJ :)

he did on the second page and problems started happening

Not only did he find and acknowledge a flaw, but he filed an issue on it.

Sounds like you appreciated his solution, but your first post made it sound like he was incompetent. I’m confused.
