The U.S. is far wealthier than any nation ever, including the U.S. of the 1930s and 40s (it's not even comparable). Whether or not it's funded has is not due to affordability.
The United States is still the richest country in the world. There is plenty of money, they just don't want to give it to people because capitalism.
It's ironic as well given how they spend a trillion in the military which seems like an unprofitable investment. They coax kids into joining the army to get or pay for an education, instead of the much cheaper and more profitable option, just pay the kids' education directly.
It's very easy to argue that the United States is wealthier than it was in the past and wealthier than China is today, because these things are unambiguously true.
The United States is the richest country in the history of the world, and there is no competition. Second place is the U.S. last year; third place is either the U.S. in 2014 or 2007 ...
The debate should be long over. Every person in the U.S. should have,
1) Food
2) Shelter
3) Education
4) Health care
The country can easily afford it. To leave people suffering for whatever political ideology or greed or other rationalization is absurd. It's time to stop wasting resources debating it and juggling the consequences, and time for the world's wealthiest nation to start delivering to its citizens.
