The U.S. is far wealthier than any nation ever, including the U.S. of the 1930s and 40s (it's not even comparable). Whether or not it's funded has is not due to affordability.

That's impossible to tell and the US is the richest nation on Earth, the Federal government provides financial assistance to states.

The United States is still the richest country in the world. There is plenty of money, they just don't want to give it to people because capitalism.

It's ironic as well given how they spend a trillion in the military which seems like an unprofitable investment. They coax kids into joining the army to get or pay for an education, instead of the much cheaper and more profitable option, just pay the kids' education directly.

The US is a very rich country.

The U.S. is not the richest country in the world, at least not anymore.

The US emerged as the wealthiest nation in Human history fro m WW2 (~50% of the worlds wealth), so this statement is somewhat surprising.

It's very easy to argue that the United States is wealthier than it was in the past and wealthier than China is today, because these things are unambiguously true.

The USA is crazy rich even compared to Europe or most western nations.

It's relative, not absolute. Saying America today isn't richer than postwar America is even more absurd.

This argument is invalid because America is not a real 1st world country. It's only rich due to historical legacy of the dollar after WW2.

According to Wikipedia, not USA is the wealthiest country on earth.

The US is still much wealthier than other industrial nations.

Hmm, US does not look or feel like the richest nation on earth. Is that just me?

Ok, in the developed world. And it really isn't. The US might be the worlds richest Country but in many areas, it's like a developing nation.

The US is extremely wealthy, and not all that far behind Norway on the PPP scale of things.

The United States is the richest country in the history of the world, and there is no competition. Second place is the U.S. last year; third place is either the U.S. in 2014 or 2007 ...

The debate should be long over. Every person in the U.S. should have,

1) Food

2) Shelter

3) Education

4) Health care

The country can easily afford it. To leave people suffering for whatever political ideology or greed or other rationalization is absurd. It's time to stop wasting resources debating it and juggling the consequences, and time for the world's wealthiest nation to start delivering to its citizens.

US sells out assets and spends the money on "stuff" rather than creating new assets. That's the opposite of "wealthier".

US is the richest nation in the world. Also, one of the last major nations in the world to NOT have any of those things.

As someone else pointed out: The US is wealthier. If it was down to wealth alone, we'd expect the US to have far fewer problems.

The US also spends something like 4x as much for a major construction project than other rich nations like UK or Germany.
