They definitely buried it, but it seemed extremely clear to me that they're shutting it down:

> To that end, we’ll begin winding down the Yik Yak app over the coming week as we start tinkering around with what’s ahead for our brand, our technology, and ourselves.

I've really enjoyed using this app. Does anyone have the inside scoop as to why it's closing?

Agreed, are they closing down the platform for good? I haven't come across such announcement yet.

Someone has as they did close down the app at some point a few years ago.

That might warrant it's own submission. They say the mobile app is shutting down, was that the most significant part or was it the web side?

I thought it should have been a good service to monetize.

Edit: was already submitted - discussion on https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12806409

They're shutting it down.

So they are shutting down the site?

They recently sent an email about their winding down.

Looks like they are shutting down.

:( Sorry to see it go.

Unfortunately it is shutting down.

yeah.. they're probably shutting that one down..

They shut it down now...

But they did acquire and shut it down. They may have future plans at some point but it has been (or will be very soon) shut down

> On Wednesday October 10, we’ll shut down our Astro apps for Mac, iOS, Android, Amazon Alexa, and Slack. As of today, we’ve also disabled signups of new users.

It's not quite clear whether they are shutting the company down entirely or shutting the product and pivoting to something else with a smaller team.

Plus when they shutdown their app platform.

The app Tink gave notice to its users and just closed down. The motivation was basically "we're moving on to other things".

This was probably pre-pandemic.

What irks me is that I loved the app but also that we the users of the app basically classified purchases that the app couldn't classify itself. So we trained their database on how to classify bank statements into categories. And then they just close down and take all that data with them.

I honestly thought they had shut down this. Maybe they just closed the Api?

Anyone else know why they're shutting it down for Android?
