I switched from Coinbase to Gemini. Their verification process is very quick and their customer service is too. Coinbase never responded to my ticket when I asked them why my purchase was pending for over a week.
I've posted about my experience on some of the other Coinbase links on here, and will continue to do so to be informative.
I had an issue with Coinbase back in early 2016, where my bank account was charged for a transaction that I didn't initiate, and I contacted their support and got no response. I waited a few weeks and reached out multiple times and got nothing. I contacted my bank and they initiated a fraud investigation, and determined it was fraud and refunded my money, partially because Coinbase refused to communicate with myself or the bank.
Do NOT use Coinbase. Use Gemini or Bitstamp, yes you have to get verified, but it's worth the headache.
I had a few issues with them and I contacted them in every way I could. No response, ever. Not even after months of trying. Coinbase support just doesn't exist.
Coinbase’ customer support is crap. You van only get someone on the phone if your account is compromised; anything else goes to email, and they respond when they get around to it. Also their email verification system for transfers fails frequently causing transfers to be canceled. Pretty convenient way for them to keep your money. I am biased but I’m pretty unhappy with coinbase right now.
I have been a long time coinbase user. I have been very unhappy with their support. I have been unable to add additional funds to buy both additional ethereum and btc from their site, even after contacting them repeatedly about this ... but never getting a reply. I did multiple identity verifications and connected bank and credit cards. No luck in being able to transact properly. Bitcoin Cash was a forcing function and last week I sent my funds to a private wallet. I am also buying additional crypto on Gemini and other exchanges. To give an idea of my frustration with them, I first tried to buy ethereum thru then at $40. I gave them benefit of the doubt in solving my issues ... and waited and waited. By the time I realized that they were not listening to me, ether had shot up to more than $200. I ultimately bought on Gemini. This was their business to lose and they did exactly that.
Eh, I wouldn't recommend Coinbase. They deemed one of my purchases from them as "high-risk" and have been holding my money hostage since. Support team has been taking 3-4 days to reply to each email in the thread.
I've had the worst customer support experience with coinbase. I'd advise not using their service. They aren't equipped to support their customers. I'm out of pocket $1000 and have been in a "queue" for the last couple of months.
I have recommended Coinbase to many people. But, a few days ago, I had a double charge on my bank account from them and have learned since that their customer support is essentially non-existent. It’s been 8 days with no response by e-mail, their posted phone number results in a busy signal, and the alternate numbers I found posted on forums go straight to hold music before hanging up after a couple of minutes. I filed a fraud report with my bank.
Coinbase has horrible support. if you are out of the USA, there is not support. In the USA, it can take at least a week before they will respond. I would not recommend.
Coinbase is terrible. I’ve tried signing up and they won’t let me because they’ve tagged my SSN with fraud but won’t tell me why. CS is nonexistent. But it’s okay, thanks Coinbase for helping me avoid you. Terrible company and service.
Coinbase reliability is so bad recently they would do better-telling people when they are fully functional because of thats the abnormal state.
As a Coinbase user, I'd love to get away from Coinbase but I can't get them to even acknowledge the $5,000 I wired them 15 days ago. Two emails into CS and still no response from them other than an automated email stating they are really behind. If I can ever get my money back, I'll never use them again.
Gemini seems to work well and be much more reliable, albeit much smaller and not as functional as GDAX.
UPDATE: Coinbase email about my missing wire, the first response in the 15 days since my wire:
"This is an automated email. As we experience rapid growth, we are also experiencing a high volume of support requests and we regret not being able to answer your inquiry in a reasonable amount of time."
I have been trying, unsuccessfully for 2 years to validate my account on Coinbase. I have over 100k in ETH stored in their wallet, have the highest levels of access to their services but CANNOT trade because they have NO HUMANS available. Their systems DO NOT work and there is NO contact info nor any way to actually reach a person.
So I have been trading with others and will never use CB for anything but cold storage. (Which they're great at)...
The company is the worst I have ever dealt with. There is no way to interact with a person. So if something does happen, you have NO RECOURSE.
Based on my experience, they will be bankrupt. This is a certainty. You cannot have a financial entity that has ZERO human interaction or service. No trust, none at all...
Coinbase had four outages in June that corresponded to unusually high volume. That didn't scare you away?
That was when I was initially setting up accounts, and it was enough to scare me away. I use Gemini. They've had unplanned outages too, but they're much rarer -- only one that I recall over the same timespan (against 10+ for Coinbase).
In the process of switching to Gemini. Coinbase limits are too low. I've been waiting for two months for them to raise my limit to half of what Gemini will give me from the start.
Coinbase has zero customer support.
Edit: Apparently they have a call center now, but my previous experience with the company has left me with no desire to go back to them.
