I liked Namecheap, but have had major issues with their DNS service. you can't switch off of them without downtime. So don't use their dns, otherwise you are locked in. which is kinda shitty.
I've never had any problem with Namecheap, but then I use them only as a domain registrar. I host my servers on DigitalOcean. That means I'm responsible for my servers, buy that's how I like it.
Namecheap is highly recommended here on HN by many for domain names. What about hosting ? They have a few hosting plans and I was wondering if anyone hosts with them ?
I decided to switch to Namecheap just for this feature. Their domain interface isn't fantastic (it's good enough), but it allows me to consolidate all my DNS management there, plus I don't have to use extra services to update my hostnames, AND ddclient supports their API directly.
Depends what you are using Namecheap for... If you are just registering a domain and changing the nameservers then you wouldn't miss anything. If you use Namecheap's DNS, mail, hosting, etc then obviously it is not just a direct switch.
Hey Ted, I currently use google domains and while I'm pretty happy with that one service I would like to switch away from Google entirely and that is one of the last services of theirs I use. What case can you make for why I should switch to namecheap?
