Admittedly I only use the gmail web client for viewing email and not much else, but I have never had issues with gmail on firefox. What problems are you experiencing?
I don't why people bother with claims like these are are trivially disproven. Anybody reading this can open up Firefox and go to Gmail and see for themselves that it works perfectly well (FF 73, Gmail frontend gmail_fe_200213.13_p5). So whatever your problem is with gmail is either imaginary or caused by some other software you've inflicted on yourself.
Gmail itself is unusable on Android + Firefox. When using an alternative browser you'll also stumble in problems with plenty of Android apps: Slack, Citymapper, etc... (when opening a web page intent, they expect that the only app that'll receive that will be Chrome)
The situation isn't as bad for desktop browsers, but it's depressing how things can still be broken.
I wonder if this is why I've been having weird stalls and intermittent failures using GMail the last few weeks. Every time, I try it in Firefox or Safari and it works perfectly.
