My Chrome did not crash, yet I am logged in with Sync. Instead of keeping Gmail in a Chrome tab, I use Fluid app to make Gmail into a "desktop" app. Seems to still be up. Others can use the same workaround by opening Google apps in Firefox and Safari.
I wonder if this is why I've been having weird stalls and intermittent failures using GMail the last few weeks. Every time, I try it in Firefox or Safari and it works perfectly.
Not only that but there's a bug between Gmail and Firefox that causes gmail to freeze on "Loading ..." after a while and not update anymore. I believe that's what GP is referring to and it is infuriating.
It's depressing. I switched back from Chromium to Firefox and been getting tons of small issues like this...
Admittedly I only use the gmail web client for viewing email and not much else, but I have never had issues with gmail on firefox. What problems are you experiencing?
Oddly, Chrome does a worse job of displaying Gmail in my set-up (Windoze) than Firefox. I'm not at all sure why. I can't see my Gmail contacts list at all in Chrome, unless I switch to "older version," while in Firefox I only need to switch to the older version of Gmail to EDIT the Gmail contacts list. (The Gmail contacts list is still largely a broken mess compared to any installed-on-Windows email client I have ever used to keep a contacts list for group emails.)
I still mostly prefer to use Firefox, because email is my primary application.
It only crashes when I try to leave gmail, and then only about 10% of the time, so it's not a big deal. I think I disabled Firebug when on Gmail. It only started when the latest version of Gmail was introduced, so I suspect it's a bug at their end, but tracking it down could prove awkward.
