Just because something isn't illegal/breach of contract doesn't mean it's right.

sort by: page size:

That's still not illegal: it's breach of contract.

The fact something is in a contract doesn't make it legal or enforceable.

But contracts aren't supposed to have provisions in them that are against the law.

Breach of contract is illegal, even though its not (in and of itself) criminal.

It's not, generally speaking, a criminal offense to violate a contract, I don't believe (IANAL!).

Just because you sign a contract doesn’t mean it’s enforceable.

You can't make a contract that violates the law. Come on.

If you can't enforce a contract it's not a contract.

That doesn't matter when it's illegal. Statute overrides contract.

Breaking a contract is not illegal. Seems to be a common misconception.

It is technically correct to say "breach of contract is not a crime". But it isn't correct to say that "breach of contract is not illegal".

You can't be contractually compelled to do something illegal.

A contract can say whatever you want. That doesn't necessarily make it legally enforceable.

You realize that contracts can't contain illegal clauses right? They aren't enforceable in any court.

Just a nitpick - the contract is not illegal. It is not legally enforceable or valid.

Contracts or terms don't have to be legal

Contracts can't enforce themselves.

Furthermore, it's not because it's written in a contract that the clause is legal.

Not all contracts are legal.
