Wrong. I hate certain cars. I'll never understand why anyone would buy a lifted truck with oversize wheels and low profile tires. I think it's an abomination. I can still find a buyer for it and sell it to them.
Not just lifted pickups. New ones are absolutely gigantic and when they pull up behind you at a stop, it's like a wall of floodlights parked behind you.
they also drive like fucking assholes, wear down the roads more, and make driving significantly less safe for everyone, especially the pedestrians who are unfortunate enough to be around them.
> That’s a strange way of saying large vehicles are intended to do more work. I haven’t seen a Toyota Prius yet that can practically trailer a load of crops to market or carry construction equipment.
More work you say? Great! It's odd that all the big lifted trucks I see are never hauling anything. It's almost like most of the people who drive them just like having a big truck and don't have any actual need for it.
One reason unfortunately is you have to share the road with those $50k pickup trucks and I would not want to be in a $5000 box anywhere near those things. I've seen a video once of a lifted pickup hitting a small economy hatchback. It was horrific.
I also drive a SUV and find it alarming how much bigger a lifted F250/F350 next to me is. The way they drive can be pretty appalling... full throttle just to pass, switch 3 lanes without looking, intensionally cutting off small cars (2 things I saw in the past week!) I can't imagine how intimidating that would be in a sedan. Which I think is the point of lifting a huge truck?
Around here we have these trucks that have giant wheels and they are jacked up like 8 feet. I see no practical use with these lifted trucks and are impossible to see around.
I agree it's generally unreasonable for people to lift their pickup trucks. it decreases the stability of the vehicle, and raising the chassis itself doesn't necessarily increase the clearance that much.
that said, this is one of those situations where most people are slightly annoyed, and a small group really wants to lift their truck. people doing specific kinds of work or living in rural and/or snowy areas may even have a legitimate reason for doing it. politically, it's hard to change things in this kind of situation.
> It’s like the aesthetics of a pickup truck is offensive to some people.
When a vehicle is driving in front of my house with a grill that's a foot higher than my oldest child... yeah, I don't much like those aesthetics. And it has nothing to do with "moving stuff". The UPS delivery vans that are actually built to, ya know, move stuff, have lower grills and way safer sight lines.
