We shouldn’t need religion for this.

So we need to ban religion.

You can have us vs them mentality without religion…

Better yet, financial institutions and crowdsourcing platforms shouldn't play religious police.

It's about time we stop giving religious beliefs any special treatment at all compared to actual measurable evidence (e.g. inhumanely killing animals, mutilating/indoctrinating children, etc.).

We're definitely missing a "secular religion", as an alternative to the preposterous and regressive superstitions that billions partake in.

Humans are perfectly capable of performing horrific acts at a massive scale without religion.

Rejecting organized religion for any reason is a step in the right direction.

If we need to get rid of religion first, so be it. Win-win.

The world needs less religion, not less bad religion. People are afraid to say it, but religion is wilful ignorance.

No, abolish religion.

This doesn't take religion. I often say that barbarism is not far behind us, but that may be too generous.

The people who do good in the name of religion, by and large, don't need religion to do good. They may (or may not) use religion as an excuse to explain why they do good, but that's just it, an excuse, and without religion they'd almost certainly still do good.

On the other hand, there is a tremendous amount of evil done in the name of religion that wouldn't be done at all if it weren't for religion. An incredible amount of hate and bigotry and oppression and violence all rooted in dogma.

People don't need to be taught how to love. But they do need to be taught how to hate.

Fuck religion.

Religion is actually highly underrated in this circumstance.

Most humans seem to need religion. Fighting religion is therefore futile.

Better to fight extremism, and not only the religious type.

Don't forget that religions kept people from doing what they want for centuries. They also can be tools of oppression and terror. Christianity did all that and beyond. Societal value systems don't need any religion at their base, but obviously people have need for faith and belief for emotional support which is not a given in any society. Let's not mix all that up.

I really like your thinking here, however I'd point out that the converse could just as easily be argued as well. That by embracing things like religion, we're actually getting worse outcomes, and therefore we should not do it.

We should start a new, more useful religion

We have to take God out of the equation. It's just impossible to deal with people when they are doing it for $Deity.
