No, abolish religion.

I would eradicate religion

Yes, but this (nor anything else) would not do it. Note: religion != belief. Religion is a societal construct used to control, limit, and oppress people.

If we need to get rid of religion first, so be it. Win-win.

So we need to ban religion.

When I say abolish big religion I mean the way it’s integrated so tightly in society. The war on drugs, abortion, non profit tax avoidance, so many fucked up things stem from the belief that my religion is better than yours and you need to believe what I believe.

You can believe whatever the hell you want - but it’s not for you or society or anyone else to decide how I can live my life.

Religion should be torn down given its history of violence and support of ignorance and general attitude towards reality and science. Not violently of course but through education and critical thinking skills because it cannot survive under the light of the actual truth about the reality of things.

Not sure how ending religion would be better for the world. There are some religious fanatics, always will be, that will use their religion to bring about hate and violence. However there are billions of people who practice some form of religion that are peaceful people who use their religion to spread love and peace throughout the world. Don't try to throw the baby out with the bath water. Religious freedom is a cornerstone of a viable democracy.

Perhaps, we ought to replace their Green religion with an inert religion like the Wiccia religion.

So, how to fix the religious, then?

If anything religion is just the rationalization of intrinsic human tendency for violence, or perhaps fear. Getting rid of religion won't fix the problem.

Religion will be banned.

They can just start a new religion. It's been done.

We should start a new, more useful religion

Even if you destroy religion, the underlying drives that created religion in the first place will persist. The religions will just be less recognizable as religion, taking on a more secular flavour. Instead you'll end up with stuff like conspiracy theories, political ideology and pseudo-science taking over.

One of the nice things about science is that its members keep their religion and their scientific work separate. It's particularly noticeable when you look through the history of science. There's a long tradition of secularism that has benefited the religious and the non-religious alike.

Issac Newton, for example, had very unorthodox opinions about God and the Trinity. To become the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, he needed a get a special exemption from King Charles II, as traditionally the chair had required that you be an ordained Anglican priest. It's that very same exemption that Newton got for his unusual religious views that allowed Stephan Hawking to hold the chair as an atheist.

We shouldn’t need religion for this.

Maybe, if you can turn them into an atheist. Challenge them on why they believe in one particular religion instead of the thousands of others, and force them to open their minds.

Once you can convince them that their religion was bullshit, they will no longer wish to kill for it.

So you just want to see all religions on earth, dead.

And you'll replace Christianity with what? Another religion? Atheism? Other religions have the same problems and Atheism is its own religion - requires faith to believe.

Humans are religious beings... you won't get rid of it by only focusing on the negative aspects of your own experiences.

Aren’t we already there? Just replace local religion with local ideology/belief.
