That is correct. His words, not mine.

Yes - he is referring to me.

Nope. He's saying it outright.

Well, I'm just quoting what he said.

Nope, I think what he said and what he thinks are different things.

I agree that's what he probably intended, but that's definitely not what he said.

You're putting words into his mouth. Particularly the first one is not at all what he wrote.

And yet that’s not quite what he said, is it?

Okay? That doesn't automatically invalid what he is saying.

No, he's not saying that at all. That's explicit if you just read his last sentence.

Obviously I'm aware that he didn't write it, and that it doesn't necessarily reflect his personal views. I was being lazy, but it's also true that when most people read those words they picture them coming out of his mouth.

I'm talking about what he said, not holistically.

He did not actually say that - but it is the implication of his comment.

Where exactly does he say that?

He's quoting the text I mentioned.

No, what he wrote makes sense as written in this context.

Correct. He's ignoring context.

does that somehow invalidate what he is saying?

It seems to me that that's exactly what he says - but perhaps I read it wrongly...

He says that explicitly in the text.
