Here here. Even though they use the same browser engine as Chrome, the Brave team have chosen not to include the blocker limitation introduced by Google[0].

Since Brave is Chrome-based, won't it be affected by Chrome's limitations on ad-blockers?

But even Brave doesn't block some google ads.

I've just notice that Brave doesn't block ads in search engine.

Why would you even use brave? You want to view advertisements just use Chrome. If you don't there's Firefox and ublock origin.

Chrome restricting extension APIs won't affect Brave's ad-blocking.

If you don't have any ethical objections to adblocking, the Brave browser supports Chrome extensions.

> Their adblocker is just a fork of uBlock Origin,

This does not appear to be true. Here is the github repo for their open source adblock engine written in rust:

Here is a (somewhat dated) article describing it by the authors:

> Google will take decisions that benefit their advertisement business, like making impossible to use adblockers on any Chromium based browser.

Because the brave adblocker is integrated directly into the browser (ie. not an extension) the Manifest V3 limitations don't apply.

Brave's adblocker is not an extension so it doesn't care. It also doesn't care about the Chromium API limitations snd does CNAME uncloaking like uBO on Firefox.

No other reason for Brave? Some don’t want to or care for blocking ads and others don’t do it at the browser level. Does Brave have anything at that point?

I didn't see the ad-blocker-blocker loading this URL in Brave. Also, often blocking both ads & JS for a site blocks the ad-blocker-blocker.

Brave's ad-blocker is not an extension, it is natively implemented, so the Brave will stay unaffected.

No, but Brave has adblocking built in.

Brave browser is literally built to block ads.

Brave does not block native ads (except for Google’s) on any website. All third party embedded ads are blocked by default.

The linked blog post doesn’t state it explicitly, but I suspect that the non-Brave browsers were not equipped with any kind of adblocking for the test. Brave has built in adblocking, so if my suspicions are true the test is rather disingenuous. At minimum Firefox and Chrome should have uBlock Origin installed and Safari should have Wipr or 1blocker installed to make it fair.

You have a mobile browser without an ad blocker? Brave

Brave doesn't block those ads.

If you don't opt into seeing ads, then Brave is a browser with ad-blocking built in (and a donate-to-sites-you-use button).

I don't really see why I should use Brave over something like Firefox with uBlock Origin.

Because ad blockers are just add-ons, they can be circumvented. Also, many ad blockers allow advertisers to pay them to allow their ads to get through: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:G3lu90...
