Thanks for the recommendation, I'd previously heard of DJB but was unaware of his writings.

Here's the link to his website: https://cr.yp.to/djb.html

Anyone have a link to the work he cites?

Links? He cites a _lot_ of empirical research and the book is generally highly regarded in the field

Ah, thanks for the link; yes this is the one I was referring to. I had thought it was by Bjarne since it was on his site, but either way, it's an interesting read.

Good recommendation.

I would add most of the stuff by Adam Curtis to this list. Been pretty eye opening for me.

I second this recommendation and his book "The Attention Merchants" as well.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll add it to my book list. Would love to dive much deeper into this idea but have only found a few books thus far that barely touch the subject.

Thanks for the link! I will need to pick that up. I supremely enjoyed the dialogues in another of his books "The Quantum and the Lotus" and this looks very interesting indeed.

Thanks for posting this! I had read an article by him a while ago and found it pretty persuasive (or rather that it supported prior intuitions), but couldn't find it again when I wanted to come back to it.

Thank you for the book suggestion. It was recommended by Guido van Rossum recently: https://twitter.com/gvanrossum/status/1297043394712092672

May I suggest this book http://www.matthewbcrawford.com/new-page-1-1-2/ ? It deals with that topic but the outlook is quite different.

His "reckoning with risk" is an excellent book. As an example: http://imgur.com/zO4zkl4

Edit: and a review http://plus.maths.org/content/reckoning-risk

I also recommend the book he wrote by the same title, featuring some of the same essays/articles featured in the broadcast and a good deal more. If you're in the US it should be no bother to find, but if you're abroad it'll take a bit of searching (or ordering from the US)

You'd probably enjoy checking out the books of Lloyd Kahn: http://www.amazon.com/Lloyd-Kahn/e/B001JS1BQY/

I think this book may be recommended reading: https://amazon.com/dp/1565893182

Wow, thanks for the context. Would still love more book suggestions on the topic if you happen to know any outside of his book; there's been some great papers linked in the thread so far but only one book suggestion unfortunately.

Another short read I like that's more focused on theory is this: http://book.mixu.net/distsys/

Interesting recommendation, thanks!

He has another one, Collapse, that is also interesting. But be sure to read the criticisms of both. A lot of his theories are somewhat controversial and not at all widely accepted.

I also recommend checking out Eric Drexler's blog:
