By the way, isn't there an open-source desktop-native client for reading (and searching through) Reddit?

sort by: page size:

There's an open-source Reddit client out there, if yc provided some kind of API (you don't want to do page scraping on the iphone) it would probably be pretty easy to adapt it.

Interface would probably be nice for a Reddit client.

I crawled reddit in several topics.

It's supported through their api.

i wonder if someone will replicate the old reddit using reddit's api. i mean, there are full featured mobile clients, i wonder if the api licensing would allow it.

There is an open source distribution of reddit. Maybe that could be adapted to your new specifications?

Reddit have a Public API, thats how all these unofficial clients work. Don't know for sure if this site is using it. (It probably is)

To add to the other replies: reddit's open source as well[0] and reasonably straightforward to set up (at least using their Ubuntu installer). Not your question, I know, but thought I'd add for completeness.

A quick search finds at least two GNUS backends for reddit.

Gnus (the built-in emacs nntp reader) can read and write to reddit through https://github.com/dickmao/nnreddit.

I go with Redreader.

It may lack some niceties, but i find it gets the job done and is open source (and was originally built to cache sub-reddits).

Isn't that the non-public internal reddit API? They have proper APIs for other things, I think.

Reddit has an API and many clients.

Probably with the official Reddit API? There are several libraries for it.

You mean like 4chan? Also you can make your own reddit client, it has a pretty open API. So, you can make your own reddit client looking like HN.

Why not just port to the Reddit codebase? The functionality seems similar.

Reddit's source is available: https://github.com/reddit/reddit

Now open Developer Tools and go to www.reddit.com.

Reddit was previously open sourced.

I've contributed code to the project.

(OP, FYI.)

Not to worry, you can still search google/etc., which scrapes Reddit, or Reddit itself through its native search. No need to use an API explicitly to access content like that.
