DST remains the notable VC investor.

sort by: page size:

The only VC was a guy named Marquardt. His firm had a 6.2% stake at the time of the IPO. I don't know when he invested.

I can't verify this, but I was told that the lead investor is Peter Thiel / Founders Fund. Seems believable, since it's consistent with his investment thesis.

One is VC funded

It's a VC firm.

I believe Microsoft took one round of venture financing, and that VC (Dave Marquardt) is both still quite an active investor (as founder of August Capital) and is also still on Microsoft's Board. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Marquardt for details.

His money is in real estate investments. Might not be tech VC, but an investor is still an investor.

Which VC would invest in that?

VC funded no less.

The VC is OSS Capital, so I'm not too worried about this happening.

VC funding.

He's got a VC fund called Obvious (mentioned in the post). If you want to know more details their portfolio is listed here:

TJ mentioned that Zeit is working with VC money in a comment here.

Congrats! Tons of respect.

What is happening to your current VC fund? I may have missed it, but who do you hand the reins to?

$40 million in VC money.

There was a company I can't recall its name, but they took VC funding for one round, retained voting control, built successfull business and then refused to go for another VC round. VC still owns company, but can't exit and founders are happy with the way things are.

Well, it's an atypical VC, as policy his firm does funding rounds of $100,000 and greater up to a more standard 5 million.

It’s not a surprise though as the interviewee works for a VC that invested in it.

Yeah but what VC is interested in funding /that/?
