2011 is when I started lurking here. i originally had disgruntledphd, but lost my password and there was no way to recover it (apparently you could contact paul graham, but I didn't know that) so I became disgruntledphd2.

Checked mine. (Your comment about bad passwords reminded me what I would have used. And it was.) It's a five-digit account.

One comment from 2009 (self-referential, talking about when I last posted),

two in 2008 (about John Carmack, and old computers),

one in 2007 (about HP calculators / RPN),

nothing in 2006,

and then lots of posts (relatively speaking) in the first half of 2005 and earlier. That's right when reddit launched (mid 2005)!

I was curious as well so I did a password reset since I was pretty sure I used an older username. Looks like my account was created early enough to have last left comments in 2000 but there are some signs of activity as late as 2010, when I got an achievement related to reading things a few days in a row.

#79509 here and was AC posting quite a bit before ever signing up. I've actually got a few accounts there and my oldest was hardly used for posting even back then.

Surprisingly I still remember my password on /. though I hadn't used that password in many years.

Lucky thing I remember it too since the email account (gfm@my-dejanews.com) registered to the /. account is long since dead.

I made an account pretty early on, before the thought had crossed my mind that I might acquire some perceived associations I wouldn't want. I had a silly reason, I just wanted to follow a conspiracy theorist friend of mine that moved there. They're certainly not joking about their theories but I find them hilarious.

After seeing it was back online I figured I would log in and post communist memes until they banned me, but it seems I am unable to login. Looks like their technical problems continue.

I was a super long time lurker. Never made an account but was on there hours each day for the past +15 years.

I stopped going during the protest and haven’t gone back since. It was the straw for me.

I suspect I am not alone in this.
