I wish Motorola wouldn't cancel their superb Z line of phones. MotoMods were a great idea, which worked especially well for batteries. I never had to worry to run out of power for the last 4 years I use these devices.

Well the Moto Z is a thing.

I must say that Motorola really has some great products to offer. I was recently looking for a cheap replacement for my old Android phone and found the Moto G7 Power, which is awesome in my eyes. No bullshit stock android, a nice large screen and it runs on a single charge more than 6 days in my case [1]. It's crazy.

The camera is bad though, but that's one of the reasons why smart phones get more expensive each year. I won't buy into this ultra-resolution, low-light, AI photo craze.

IMO they should focus on that low-price segment and they will own the market. I don't see any value in foldable screen gimmicks.

I was spoiled by a Droid Turbo. Now I can't buy anything with less than 3500mAh of battery, which severely limits my options. Too bad Motorola phones never get software updates and are super locked down

Moto Z has a nice innovative design - big magnetic attachment plate in the back for external modules. Still waiting for the killer mods like slide-out keyboards and gamepads though

The Moto Z family has something similar (an internal battery plus an optional removable external battery). And from what I've read, the technology it uses seems to be in part based on Google's modular phone prototype.

Motorola has been pushing their 'MotoMods' as add-on sleds recently too.

'Our phone is so thin! And has a projector and a great camera and a huge battery! You just need to carry a hand bag of accessories!'

I've been using the Moto Z Play for 6 months and it's my favorite phone yet.

The battery life is insane, easily can make it 2 days and I'm an extremely heavy user. I love the plain vanilla Android stock and I got a deal where I got the Hassleblad camera Moto mod for free which is a great addition.

Stop making mobile phones, Motorola won.

Every phone with moto mods were built this way. The battery mod was probably the most popular.

They didn't sell well, apparently.

Motorola still sells great phones. Android doesn't have high system requirements and computing power has dramatically increased, become cheaper, and more energy efficient in the past few years, it's not too difficult to build a long-lasting and great phones anymore, which is bad for phone manufacturers because they rely on people purchasing phones frequently.

Even though I'm very tempted to purchase a Moto G or E I can't help but to stick to the Nexus phones though. If HTC or Motorola would just sell phones without custom software and pre-installed applications and would have a 3 year update policy, only then would I purchase from them.

I have no problems installing custom ROMs to keep a phone up-to-date but I really shouldn't have to.

moto phones

They have atrocious support. Bricked a whole bunch of Moto G phones a couple of years ago - by breaking the charging functionality with a firmware update. Just straight up didn't fix it. Thousands of people affected. I'd never consider a Motorola device again.

I had a couple Motos and recently moved to Xiaomi.

The last one was a Z2 Play. The USB-C port broke and I couldn't charge the device anymore, 6 months after purchase. When I contacted Motorola Mexico they asked me send the phone so they could determine if this would be covered by warranty or not. Of course I had to pay for all shipping myself and be without a phone for a couple of weeks. Yeah no thanks.

Instead of wasting money on shipping I invested that money into a new Mi A1 which does everything I need from a phone and cost me half of the Z2 Play. It also comes with Android One.

I called Motorola support once to ask about a battery replacement for a Moto G (3rd gen). They told me it was impossible and effectively that I should buy a new phone.

I have used Moto for my last 3 phones and they are great. Almost no bloatware, fast, good battery life. Only thing I would like is longer support for the phone OS.

Which carrier sold Android phones - where most users by their phones - have user replaceable batteries?

The Moto G is usually cited as one of the best mid range phone and it doesn’t have user replaceable batteries. I don’t think most of the cheap Walmart phones have user replaceable batteries.

RIP Motorola

The Xperia Z5 is really marvelous. Unlucky for me, my Moto X 2013 is still going so strong, that I have no reason to change it...

I hope the next Nexus phone is made by Motorola. I really like the body of their devices. I wanted to get a Moto X developer edition but it was too expensive, unfortunately.
