I really hope there is enough momentum to stop this. It's definitely the last straw for me in terms of apple products. I haven't bought a new iphone for 4 years, I'm slowly trying to switch to a lightphone (non smartphone). My mac needs a change but I will probably switch to linux.

It's absolutely ridiculous what apple has become. The exact opposite of what they used to represent, when I loved them. God rest Steve Jobs soul, his 1984 ad is exactly what apple is now. Screwed devs on app store, strongarmed into compliance, cooperation with china, worse and worse UX on phones, and now this...

Really disappointing.

This is egregious and deeply disturbing behavior from Apple. At this point it feels wrong to own an iPhone. I'm at a loss for words describing what Tim and their leadership team has done to this company that I used to admire so much.

Seeing this makes me want to get even further away from Apple's ecosystem.

4 years ago, I was all in- Mac, iPad, iPhone. In the last 4 years, I've been driven away by Apple seeming contempt for professional users.

Their contempt for other competition is even graver cause for concern.

I feel strange having watched from afar as apple abused their users over and over, and then see apple users be surprised and horrified at this more recent behavior.

They have not changed one bit. This was always apple, behavior which everyone who purchased their status symbol focused products at insane markups supported.

Not to be the bearer of bad news here, guys, but I very much doubt that this is going to do much to slow apple down.

Their core user base for the iPhone seems to be not geeks, but teenage girls. Even if it WAS just geeks, we make up a minuscule percentage of the population. Chances are that if I told one of my sisters, or my mother (who all have iPhones) about this, they would roll their eyes a bit, add an entry or two to the "brother is a conspiracy nut" column, and point me to the latest "omg cute!" app that they downloaded.

The iPhone and the appstore are not going anywhere. If developers like us stop building things for it, people who value cash more than they value principles will take our place.

As much as it sucks, this is the world that we live in.

Hey I’m confused, why does everyone hate Apple now? Did I miss a memo? I like their computers and phones. I’m not an iOS developer. Do I still need to get on this band wagon?

I'm starting to hate Apple more and more.

Apple: Are your products so terrible that you have to force people to buy them by preventing any other competition?

I think it may be time for high profile developers to boycott Apple till they stop acting like this.

I'm really impressed that he asked for an affidavit from the head of apple. That would've really put apple in deep trouble had they gone that route. Good job on calling their bluff on the 'it will take us 14 days to update the site'. =/

Apple just seems so slimy these days. I absolutely love many of their products but lately they seem quite meh.

Apple by now is garbage. It's a rent-seeking company. Literally every business line they have is about milking customers and developers.

They have long forgotten the consumer or user that let them survive in the 90s.

I've been a happy Apple consumer over the past 6 months (actually, far longer). Remind me why I'm upset? I have an iPad, an iPhone, and a Macbook Pro.

I'm so confused as to why anybody still supports apple. They have utter contempt for their customers.

Yeah, this is ridiculous. Apple has been selling actual products that work and that billions of people happily use for 43 years. Hard to compare that with a company that never released anything that actually worked the way they claimed, and was revealed to be committing outright fraud.

I was planning on buying an iPod next month with a pay raise, but after all of this stuff from Apple, I'm really starting to lose my admiration for the company. I miss when Apple was fringe.

It's good news. This was pathetic from the beginning. They didn't even care to disguise their hunger for power and control. I liked Apple for Mac. I don't any more for iPhone.

Apple can't innovate anymore so they have this rent seeking behavior. I'm going to move away from the iPhone, and make my parents do the same. I hope you die a swift death of Yahoo, Apple, if you continue this behavior.

Also what the hell is the United States government doing? Are they blind? Cmon' if someone important is reading this, you know its time to punish Apple for this. This should be unacceptable behavior and needs to be investigated. Spotify, Hey, Netflix and other smaller companies need to band up and take Apple to court over this.

Apple is now a fat old rent seeker fart. This is a large indication that their shares are now overvalued.

Apple makes me sad these days.

The ads are super irritating, I can't believe a phone by the company that supposedly cares about user experience is pushing a fucking credit card offer. But that really shouldn't be surprising, considering...

After the casino ads took over the App Store, it became apparent that they're just bullshitting about safety and trustworthy computing. Because why not, if you care about those things, where are you going to go, Android?

Today's Apple is a mercenary bucket of quarterly-reporting driven MBAs. Any brand loyalty or trust I used to feel is gone. I stay logged out of Icloud, because if I don't, things keep uploading... stuff... to them, which absolutely should not happen, but does.

So, Apple is qualitatively no better than MSFT at this point, worse in some ways. At least Redmond does't affect a smirky superior shithead attitude in their software.

you know, one surefire way to signal to apple that deployment of such technology is detrimental to their bottom line is to just not buy apple products anymore.

This is just really sad. Apple used to be the beacon of hope. Maybe it was false hope all along.

We must go full FOSS from hardware to software to preserve humanity. Everyone needs to get on board, not just the savvy minority. That's the goal.

This is sadly the beginning of the end of Apple.

Apple is working so hard for us to not buy from them anymore. It's incredible.
