Apple makes me sad these days.

The ads are super irritating, I can't believe a phone by the company that supposedly cares about user experience is pushing a fucking credit card offer. But that really shouldn't be surprising, considering...

After the casino ads took over the App Store, it became apparent that they're just bullshitting about safety and trustworthy computing. Because why not, if you care about those things, where are you going to go, Android?

Today's Apple is a mercenary bucket of quarterly-reporting driven MBAs. Any brand loyalty or trust I used to feel is gone. I stay logged out of Icloud, because if I don't, things keep uploading... stuff... to them, which absolutely should not happen, but does.

So, Apple is qualitatively no better than MSFT at this point, worse in some ways. At least Redmond does't affect a smirky superior shithead attitude in their software.

What the hell is up with Apple? I'm usually all for fierce competition, but this vindictive bullshit goes above and beyond that.

Having just fought a vendor for months to cancel a service - how do others not realize that long term the apple approach that builds trust will actually pay off?

We had three people working to get cancellation done. Customer service / billing / tickets / emails and more. It was ridiculous. The only person who could cancel was a salesperson we’d never worked with who would NOT respond to calls and emails. And we pay this vendor 75,000+!

Every time windows pro jams “search suggestions” and other crap in via notifications and elsewhere I just roll my eyes

I've got to say, Apple definitely lost me on this one. This feels bad enough that despite having an iPhone since the iPhone 3G, I'll likely jump ship when I need to upgrade unless they make a U-turn on this move.

EDIT: Wow, getting downvoted for saying Apple is losing me as a customer with this move is surprising. I don't understand how people on Hacker News of all places want conformity of thought. I switched from using Microsoft products to Apple when Vista came out. Microsoft lost my trust by that point and Macs were a viable alternative. Despite having a Macbook, iPhone, and an Apple Watch it seems like Apple is starting to lose me with this move.

I'm getting very uncomfortable with Apple. Not sure how to describe this in the best terms, but this is just plain wrong.

I expelled Apple from my life 5 years ago and couldn't be happier. Before that, I'd been using their stuff for longer than you. I was quite close to the company for a time, covering them as a journalist full time. I have 3 Linux boxes and a Windows box. I shit on Apple from great height. Their entire ethos has been lost, and they don't make anything easier. My folks continue to use them, and my father's business life has been nearly ruined by their CONSTANT updating of the OS and ending of support. He's almost 80, he's not going to learn anything new, but he hit one button accidentally when it prompted him, and now he's been updated to god knows what newer-yet-still-unsupported version of their OS and his email client stopped working and his legitimately paid-for iTunes music stopped working. Apple has not only contempt for its users, it has contempt for its developers and fans. It treats them all like morons.

I thought this was computing for the masses.

What an astoundingly dimwitted thing for Apple to do. I thought they were smarter than this.

Android is going to eat their lunch.

apple have had their day. Their going downhill FAST.

I'm glad I got to experience apple when they were great, it was the tail end of their greatness but they created beautiful products and cared about the consumer.

Now their all about the money.

I recently had to book a genius appt and wait a week to get a new charger. w-t-f apple. In the old days any staff would try out your charger, realise it didn't work and then replace it (assuming it was under warrenty) now I have to spend £65 and then get a refund the week after. and they gave me ANOTHER new charger. Why not let me keep the one I paid for and not create more waste.

already left the iphone fold but unfortunately osx (snow leopard at least) is a great OS :(

Apple has abused their position as a market leader for years. I'll burn karma if it bears repeating, but their unrivaled hostility has kinda destroyed the technology sector.

Apple is evil.

Apple’s customer support as a whole is atrocious. Here in the uk their milton keynes apple store is essentially a cesspit of cockiness and upselling rudeness. Filed a complaint against an employee and have yet to receive any feedback two months later. The only apple product in my life is now an iphone, but that will be phased out too. Good riddance. Open source all the way.

I’m honestly done with Apple. I’m American but from the horribly locked down devices, anti-repair mechanisms built into devices (ie, software locked feature after non-Apple repair), apple pushing right to repair propaganda through lobbyist groups and “McKinsey” type consultants, and just general abuse from the company towards app developers (ie, high fees charged, “rules for thee, but not for me” such as with Network APIs applied to 3rd party sw but apps like App Store bypass this, stealing of ideas).

Great looking products. But behind those products is a predator looking to extract as much money/time from you.

I am genuinely sad to write this:

Apple has become the most arrogant asshole company of all the tech giants. They have forgotten the role that we developers played in making them the largest company in the world. But in their moment of financial victory, they have lost their soul.

:(

What's shocking is that this is news.

Apple sucks.

Hey I’m confused, why does everyone hate Apple now? Did I miss a memo? I like their computers and phones. I’m not an iOS developer. Do I still need to get on this band wagon?

Apple management are becoming real assholes.

I had planned on buying a new rMBP but have permanently taken that off of my shopping list because I don't like where Apple is heading. A few months ago I bought my stepson an iPad 3 for his birthday and that might be my last Apple purchase.

I recently bought Galaxy S III phones for my wife and I and I don't see so much similarity with the iPhones, not even getting into prior art issues.

Apple has the legal right to peruse any legal proceedings they want but as consumers we can vote with our wallets.

And, there are now some very sweet non-Apple laptops :-)

I'm starting to hate Apple more and more.

Apple: Are your products so terrible that you have to force people to buy them by preventing any other competition?

I think it may be time for high profile developers to boycott Apple till they stop acting like this.

Apple music and now Apple pay. When I look at Apple, I feel big tech needs to break down.

I really hope there is enough momentum to stop this. It's definitely the last straw for me in terms of apple products. I haven't bought a new iphone for 4 years, I'm slowly trying to switch to a lightphone (non smartphone). My mac needs a change but I will probably switch to linux.

It's absolutely ridiculous what apple has become. The exact opposite of what they used to represent, when I loved them. God rest Steve Jobs soul, his 1984 ad is exactly what apple is now. Screwed devs on app store, strongarmed into compliance, cooperation with china, worse and worse UX on phones, and now this...

Really disappointing.

As a Mac and iPhone user I am annoyed as this means I'll have to start migrating away from Apple over the next few years, paying for premium product only for the os and native apps to start getting adverts is atrocious and cannot be rewarded with my continued support.

Edit: I just checked the stocks app on my MacBook M1 Max and there are unrelated adverts alongside finance news items.

I am appalled and regretting my my m1 max (64gb ram, 4tb ssd) purchase for the first time. Up till now its has been one my of best tech purchases in my life. Not anymore.

This is a sign of pure greed. The most profitable company wants even more profits and will damage its brand to do so.
