To get the snipping tool working, close the snipping tool, manually set the date to around the start of October. Reopen the snipping tool and it should be working. The date can now be set back.
I had pretty good luck reaching out to the developers on Discord these past couple weeks. Not sure when you tried but I recommend trying it again. I personally I think snips is way more appropriate on something embedded like a RPi. I was up and running with their new sam package within minutes. Their new update (about two months?) really made it more user friendly. Unfortunately, their windows packages is still very broken.
E: You should probably try in the late night or early morning time for the States (EST) since they are located in Europe I believe.
Okay, so I changed the year to 2039, started WindowsXP in VirtualBox. Nothing happend. Opened Excel, typed in some time-related functions (like NOW), worked fine. And just by the time I was going to post this message ending with "What is wrong with it, I want some blue screen people" I simply couldn't log in with my LiveJournal openID (not sure if this is HN's or LJ's fault), so seems like this time thing really works.
Interesting. When I tried it at work earlier (Windows 7, latest PuTTY) it closed out the window without showing anything. I just tried it at home (Windows 10, latest PuTTY) and it worked as you said.
Edit: about 15 minutes into a set, it stopped playing with no explanation, although the time elapsed changed to NaN:NaN:NaN. Changing tracks or fiddling with the controls couldn't get it going again, but reloading the page did.
Love the concept, and I'm going to keep using it, but it seems to need a bit more QA :p
Doesn't even launch. The window appears very briefly then closes immediately. If any of the maintainers are here let me know how can I help you with this. I'm on Windows 10 version 1703 (OS Build 15063.13) x64
