The ones that fold up to stack against the walls when the cafeteria needs to be used as the theater? The ones with the built in round, blue plastic seats? If not, you're thinking too nice.

That’s a great idea. I’ve also seen a less secure “cubby” model where people just have trays.

Also, chairs.

You mean, like little Bobby Tables? http://xkcd.com/327/

I usually call them staple tables.

Shelves?

i was going to say the same thing.. esp those $40 tables. I was actually going to buy one this weekend to put in my living room for when friends come over to cowork

Or.. drawers (optionally with clear fronts). Each drawer is effectively a mini chest fridge.

Or just plain tables. Look under the HN hood.

Schools absolutely burn cash on furniture these days. Even when I was in high school it was bad. School administrators went to an apple store and had to buy those expensive huge solid wood tables they had for the common areas, which people promptly defaced in a few years. Wooden lockers too in the new wing, but they had those crappy cabinet hinges that tend to pop off with typical usage, so half the lockers would end up crooked and apathetic kids would slam them anyhow and legitimately damage the door at that point.

I doubt OP meant literal benches but more long tables with individual chairs. That's how I read it anyway.

Newer designs are actually integrating drawers of all sorts of configurations and even mini limited drawers/access for guests while entertaining and what not.

I bought some cafe trays off Amazon a few years back for organizational purposes. I've never ate from them though they are clearly fit for it - but they're just a great all-purpose space divider and stack well when unused. I even use them in the fridge to create some slide-out space without a drawer. Combine with some smaller tray divider systems and shelving and you can clear up a lot of small odds-and-ends piles without banishing them to a box.

The ones near me have a sort of stool thingy- it's for sure not standing, but it's close.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Somehow the word "bench" just pops into my head when I think of those long tables. I'm not sure why.

They're not so bad if you supply your own table-top.

Also you can put things on top of them, which means they fit nicely into the kitchen of most apartments.

Now I know they are called drafting tables! Still got two in the old office of my parents.

Benchs?

I still use the ikea dresser and bookshelf I had in high school.
