Not everyone has 1200 USD laying around.

Not many people have a spare billion dollars, however.

What? Do you guys not have $110,000?

"some people have more money than you", still, 15k USD is a lot, even without this perspective.

50 000$ isn't modest in most parts of the world.

Not everyone has billions like the US mil to throw at

For some people 100 billion is apparently not much money https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21097736

For some people, that would be a lot of money.

The supply of Dollars is not limited to 21 million.

This incorrect idea that there's any trivial way to make a $4 billion purchase is popular because most people don't understand money in those amounts. It's fine if you have a problem with extreme wealth, but if this is how you think of it, you might not be seeing the actual problems.

It's not like 500 million ppl just sit around and buy nothing...

That and there is only one balance over 100k USD. But there are a lot of people that would consider 100k an almost meaninglessly small amount of money.

And exactly how many people do you think have $1,500 laying around? (Hint: not many)

Most people wouldn't do this, though. Most people don't have the financial IQ to manage that 1M.

It's already $60k. So arguably only 0.00001% of the people in the world can do it already.

I assume the reason you react is that you identify with somebody who could potentially do it (by saving a lot maybe), but couldn't anymore with the new price.

Thinking it's something everybody could do if fit is not realistic.

I tend to agree, but then I'm a well-paid IT guy.

90% of the population probably doesn't have $10k of assets. So while $10k isn't alot of money, it is out of the ordinary, especially if you are able to store it out of the country.

Why do you think nobody needs more than billion dollars?

I know if I had a billion dollars there are lots of things I'd fund. Why should I not be allowed to do that? If I had a trillion I also have things I'd fund that I couldn't at a billion

Most people don't see the benefit of being able to send $100,000,000 for $2 because most people will never need, or be able, to send $100,000,000 to anyone. Or $1,000,000, or even $10,000.

Surely you have a few dozen billion dollars lying around?

Also you have to have over $100,000 in liquid assets, which isn't a particularly large group of people.
