We have positions open right now for backend and full-stack developers. You'll be working on a small, self-organized team that is expected to understand their customers, and design, build, deploy, and operate their own solutions. Teams choose their own languages and tools but we tend towards kotlin/java on the backend and node.js/javascript/react for frontend work. Cogo Labs is a company that creates companies, kind of like an incubator with a twist: all of our ideas/startups come from within the company. We don't offer investment in outside startups. Thus far we have had two major ($100MM+) acquisitions, and a handful of smaller ones, and we are anticipating more in the near future. Typically, once a startup we are incubating gets off the ground, we hire employees into that startup and assist them with whatever they need to make the company successful. Cogo Labs itself has around 40 full-time employees now in our office in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA.
I'm looking for a software engineer or senior software engineer to join my team. You should have a degree in CS or a similar field, and experience developing for the web, as most of our startups are web properties. Specific experience in Ruby, Rails, and/or Python are a plus, but not absolutely necessary. I'm more concerned with finding smart people than finding people with specific skills.
I am currently developing new features for a web site that we run that gets >50k unique visitors per day, and you'd be assisting in this effort. I can be more specific if you're invited for an interview.
We are big on metrics and analysis -- there are grids of monitors (we call them "NOC walls") all over the office showing up-to-the-minute stats about all of our properties. I can code up a new feature, deploy it, and walk over to one of the NOC walls and literally watch my change affect traffic on the site, or revenue, or profit. It's a really fun place to work. Benefits and perks are great as well (see http://cogolabs.com/careers for more info).
If you're interested, shoot me an email (cmatthias at cogolabs.com) with your resume and a brief cover letter (be sure to mention you saw this post on HN). Bonus points for including a link to your github page or other code repository where I can see some code you've written.
Hi, I'm a tech recruiter for Rapid7. Below is a listing of our current openings in Cambridge, MA. If you're interested, you can reach me directly at samantha.oliver@rapid7.com.
Software Engineer II (mid level) (User Insight)
http://www.rapid7.com/company/jobs.jsp?gh_jid=90721
Full-stack Java, but interest in security or big data & experience with AWS, MongoDB (or any NoSQL database), and/or Cassandra is a huge plus.
If you are in the Boston area or interested in relocating to Cambridge, my company, HubSpot, is hiring. We're a late stage startup building an all-in-one marketing platform. You can watch our recruiting video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXOtTvb5OFE (yeah it's a bit corny, but it really is a cool place to work). Shoot me an email with your resume if you are interested (address in my profile). I'm one of engineering team leads, not a recruiter, so I will look at it directly, no hoops to jump through.
Jobcase runs a set of job boards and a professional social network focused on the 3/4 of the country that doesn't have a four-year college degree. We're growing quickly, with 70MM registered members, and are self-funded to 100+ employees, so we're highly focused on data-driven decisions and making smart capacity investments for the future. We've just been voted one of Boston Business Journal's Best Places to Work (again!).
Recruiting for multiple roles, especially:
Platform engineer - Build all our core systems (including interesting architecture/scaling problems), working on a well-documented code base in a team with a strong review culture and very clear communications. We use a Java/Hibernate stack; happy to talk to people with experience in comparable technologies.
Data science / analytics / information retrieval - Help our members find relevant advice and jobs, and our colleagues make good decisions. Have a direct impact on revenue and on engagement, working with a team that's making major optimizations for our members and with colleagues who are uniformly data-savvy.
Interview process is a phone screen, then onsite interviews, with onsite design exercise and/or take-home coding/analysis exercise. Happy to answer questions, jberk at jobcase.com - my team works pretty closely with both of those teams.
Embedly is looking for a software engineer to manage our growing video analytics product. Your role will allow you to work with a firehose of real-time events data, build APIs, and create analysis tools to surface actionable information.

We create software that helps businesses with their online marketing. The company is several hundred employees and nearing a hundred in engineering. Things are organized in small teams and you get to have a big impact. We were also named the #2 place in Massachusetts to work.
On the backend, we use Java (modern Java with DropWizard, Guice, and the like) and Python (Django). We love using JSON to get things done. For storage, there's HBase, Hadoop (for MapReduce jobs), MySQL, ZooKeeper, Redis, and Memcached. We do great monitoring and deploy hundreds of times a day. We use CI and have automated deployment. Don't expect your code to languish in git (we have GitHub Enterprise) for long.
On the front end, we use Backbone.js, CoffeeScript, and jQuery.
We're also looking for iOS and Android engineers.
Work schedule seems flexible (most engineers work 10-6), you get great equipment (like a Retina MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt display), and you get to make a meaningful difference in the product. There's free drinks (including beer), snacks, etc.
It's a great place to be and hope you come join us! We have lots of positions open.
