Apply the same logic to yourself. You worship the ground Musk walks on and he can do no wrong. Everything he does has a reasonable explanation to you, but if someone else did it then it might not be so reasonable. You have been indoctrinated by a conman and are projecting your psychosis onto other, more reasonable, people.

sort by: page size:

when someone tells you who they are, believe them.

musk isnt some gratioud thoughtful genius surrounded by incompetence. he’s a malicious, selfish, narcissist.

and if you dont see that, well, nothing can be done about it. just look at his tweets and “enlightened centrism”. and that time he called a guy a pædo.

You seem to be suffering from Reductive Personality Disorder.

Just because Musk has the power to do things like this doesn't absolve him from the absolute shittiness of his behaviour. He doesn't get a free ride because he's the owner, quite the opposite. People who wield power should act responsibly with it. Musk hasn't heard of the concept because he's so self absorbed and insecure he has no room for any sort of basic human empathy.

Obnoxious people

A lot of people look at everything in simple, reductionist way. Musk is either a god or he's a charlatan who stole companies and contributes nothing. Some people do this to influence a view point and others do this because they are simpletons echoing sentiments that feel good to them, this is how it has always been.

Have you considered that some people believe most everyone is wrong, that they won’t be told what to do by others, that they are or should be in complete control their lives, that they live by their own rules, that The Man is keeping them down, etc? Musk personifies that belief system.

I'm a bit perplexed that you see trashing a man's character with certainty as right and pondering if his actions could reflect a struggle with mental illness as wrong.

I don't like Musk, nor do I trust the things he says, but I usually err on the side of granting people some humanity.

I understand, but you can learn to resist. Pretty much everything about Musk is nonsense.

What do you think I meant with "Musk has all but confirmed"?

I'm not diagnosing him. I'm just pointing out that it makes sens to agree with Musk's self-diagnosis.

Untreated mental illness or autism is not excuse, but it's at least partial explanation. Only people who believe in pseudoscience like soul can think people have something innate like "true self" in them that does not need explanation.

Wow. This sums up the incredible attitude of some Musk followers. And I say follower because it is literally like a cult. To this individual, Musk can do no wrong.

To those who are dubious about Musk, I have a question:

What do you think is the correct way of going about determining if a person has sincere ideals or is just a con artist?

I don’t think acting like a crazy person screaming on the street corner is the best way to persuade people that your ideas are smart and rational. It’s not like he needs to draw attention to the cause, there is literally no other issue besides virus occupying the public imagination right now. You seem very desperate to find any excuse, no matter how preposterous, to justify Musk’s behavior. Why is that the case?

Not only are you ascribing ill motives without justification, you're doing it based on pure supposition. The whole story exists only in your head. Snap out of it.

It's not as if there aren't real reasons to think Musk is an ass. Wait for one of those to come up before you start the hate train.

I can't grasp it (actually not that interested in doing so), but atm I tend to look from the point of psychopathology regarding Musk. Seriously, something here is no yes.

Musk has clearly acted erratically in the last few years. He must certainly has some kind of brain disfunction. Many such people at certain times appear to be geniuses, but their lives are badly impacted by their lack of awareness of other human beings and insatiable ego. A case that went wrong very early was Elisabeth Holmes. But a lot of these crazy people go on to make a fortune and then the public is lead to believe that they're great, to praise then and even to try emulating them. For example, even with all signs of mental disease, we still see a lot o people incensing Musk as a great person to be imitated.

I’d offer that Musk hasnt shown any consistent principle motivating his behavior other than gathering power, in the face of stated motivations.

So while he may genuinely believe what he is saying, the inherent philosophical conflicts in his consistent narcissistic actions, have poisoned any other possible position to such an extent that he has lost all moral credibility

Revealed preferences never lie

Hating on Musk is popular these days in large part because it is becoming more and more obvious that he is in many ways a con artist. Look at his recent self-driving car promises, for example. I don't believe that he is so misinformed as to actually believe his own self-driving car promises, so I view his over-promising as deliberate deception.

Because Musk thinks he’s a god, he can distort the reality around him and do whatever he wants with no consequences.

And TBH, he has all the reasons to think so. He’s been openly lying about so many aspects of his businesses for a long time, manipulating markets, ignoring all the rules and regulations and only thing it resulted in, was making him wealthiest man in the world.

I can see why this man would be rubbing Musk the wrong way. He appears to be everything Elon Musk isn't. He's a Mensch.

To a narcissist who doesn't like a person like this, the brain says "Either he's a fraud, or I'm the asshole". And a narcissist brain will settle that question in e heartbeat, with the wrong answer.

When dealing with mental illness, attempting to rational behavior is an exercise in frustration.

I'm not a psychiatrist --- but you don't have to be to recognize that Musk exhibits some of the symptoms.

I agree but this assumes Musk is acting rationally. He has been a bit odd lately. Maybe he got too high with his girlfriend and got weird. I don't know. Then again he is also human and prone to acting irrationally out of spite or vengeance.
