On Android I have installed RedReader, don't recall if it's in the Android store or from the F-Droid one. Until they kill their API...

Redreader in FDroid.

There are also alternative much better apps (e.g. redreader from the F-Droid store for Android).

There's an open-source Android app which is published on F-Droid.

Book Reader, also on F-Droid, is a great fork of FBReader.

This seems like a great place to plug f-droid which is basically an Android "market" of all open-source apps that they compile themselves. Download reddit is fun from f-droid here:

Yup, there are apps on f-droid but they (Red Moon) suck because they're just an overlay that kills all blacks.

F-Droid has a major flaw, in that Android (as of now) doesn't allow auto-updating of apps outside of Google Play. I only install a limited number of apps from there for that reason.

I've used F-Droid on Android for years.

What app do you recommend from F-Droid? I've been looking for an alternative as well but none of the ones in the Play Store look appealing to me.

Almost every android app I use is from the f-droid store, due to being on a unrootable phone so no ROMing for me. I love it, but it isn't perfect so it's nice to see work still being done on it.

There are several such apps on f-droid.

Thanks for the heads up, i grabbed it from F-droid. Really nice app, much better than the other open source ones I have tried!

Maybe it would be a good idea to link to F-Droid then? I'm using it and would've totally ignored the app if you didn't reply here :)

There are multiple Reddit apps on F-Droid too.

I have installed the apk directly right now from an old old source. I am going to try the f-droid version again soon and see how it goes.

Even if I go on to install the app from the Play store, I use f-droid to filter down to non-user hostile apps in oversubscribed categories like soduko apps.

Honest question: Does anyone here successfully use android without f-droid?

From what I can tell, non-nonsense opensource utilities are simply undiscoverable on the app store.

non-google app store for devices running android OS.
