Precisely. You have to wonder why so many people still take Musk at his word.

According to Musk. Are people still trusting the things he says?

It's strange how much people will bend over backwards to give Musk the benefit of doubt when he openly lies about such things

There's no way for me to phrase this while coming across as civil, but I'm genuinely curious: does anybody actually believe Musk? If so, why?

There's a very well known case of Musk making the same claim multiple years in a row, with it being false every single time.

I prefer to assume the best out of people, but when someone is that obviously wrong that many times with that much personal gain to come from it, I can't believe that man as smart as he is would also be that misled.

Musk has gone to substantial lengths to undermine his own credibility and you wonder why people question his statements? It's not even a 'strong opinion' at this point, it's just reality: Musk can be trusted for what he says. It may be true, it may not be true. It may be technically true. But you'll never know until you've seen the evidence with your own eyes.

It's amazing what people make up to discredit Musk.

At this point you just outright assume that Musk's claims are false until proven otherwise.

Musk is _still_ saying it.

I'm not sure why would anyone would trust what Musk says without independent confirmation...

I think the point is that Musk has proven that he can't be fully trusted.

It's odd how little skepticism any of Musk's claims are met with. I can't imagine the situation would be the same for anyone else. (Not to say he hasn't had many impressive accomplishments, but people seem to want to believe anything Musk says so much that they stop thinking critically).

I'm surprised so many people choose to believe half the things Elon Musk says too, but this is where we are.

You're probably right, which is why articles like this feel like gullible people believing Musk's incessant image-building.

It saddens me tgat at HN people start to blindly believe certain people's claims without checking precendce. In Musks case based on, IMHO, pure hype and his celebrity status. So I guess, same?

Musk has lied repeatedly in public, so it's difficult to assume good faith from him.

The personality cult around Musk boggles the mind. He's a very advanced form of charlatan.

"Full self drive" is an obvious lie (and dangerously negligent at that) but Musk continues to not only promise it but literally sell it, and get away with it.

I think one day the chronic lying will catch up with him - but at this rate, it won't be soon.

Anything Musk says is unreliable with a fairly substantial history as proof.

Musk is smart enough to know those were lies.

It works both ways. Musk frequently exaggerates, makes ridiculous claims, and offers fact-free promises. I don't take him at his word either.
