I've been arguing about this article on another forum, and have been looking closely at how Musk is interpreting his own data - and he's being loose and fancy-free with it (both sides have engaged in embellishment, it seems). As a result, I don't think he's a shining bastion of honesty - I wouldn't trust Tesla any more than any other entity.
People value trustworthiness, and Musk's track record with public statements about his businesses definitely isn't the best in that regard -- though that largely concerns the utopian predictions/promises he likes to make, I suppose. Maybe statements of his about the current state of affairs are more reliable.
I think that this person is more trustworthy than Musk. After reading Musk's depositions he is not a person that I would consider to be honest and forthright.
I don't think Musk deserves the benefit of the doubt. His history of just lying about this sort of stuff (outside of Tesla-related claims) is too long and rich for that.
My take is that Elon has been putting a lot of effort right from the beginning to paint the "saboteur" as lacking credibility. It appears to me Mr Musk is worried about the message more than betrayal.
Could be. Even if few of Musk's decisions make sense to me, he has proven a lot of people wrong in the past, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
"Just because I tweet something doesn’t mean people believe it," Musk said.
Just because he is untrustworthy doesn't mean that people *don't* believe it. If he didn't *want* people to believe it, why did he say it?
As head of the company, he has a duty to be more cautious and responsible with his public statements lest he gets sued. If he doesn't know or the situation is unsure/unsettled, don't make a public announcement that can mislead people.
Musk has gone to substantial lengths to undermine his own credibility and you wonder why people question his statements? It's not even a 'strong opinion' at this point, it's just reality: Musk can be trusted for what he says. It may be true, it may not be true. It may be technically true. But you'll never know until you've seen the evidence with your own eyes.
Well, it seems like he has a reason to be highly skeptical of Tesla auto-pilot, based on how awful and dangerous the technology appears to be. Not to mention Musk's repeated broken promises about the timeline and functionality.
Musk is known to be dishonest, but something tells me the person making this claim is an ideological opponent of Musk. I would hesitate to believe this until more information.
