Could be. Even if few of Musk's decisions make sense to me, he has proven a lot of people wrong in the past, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
People value trustworthiness, and Musk's track record with public statements about his businesses definitely isn't the best in that regard -- though that largely concerns the utopian predictions/promises he likes to make, I suppose. Maybe statements of his about the current state of affairs are more reliable.
He’s not the only one to float this possibility. It’s one of the more plausible explanations if you take the assumption that Musk was acting rationally with forethought.
Sadly, no—this is based on a relatively distant observation of various tweets and other statements by and about Musk over the course of the past few years.
However, Musk claiming something means very little at this point, and the onus is going to be on him to prove several things here given the fairly water tight nature of the contract.
There's a very well known case of Musk making the same claim multiple years in a row, with it being false every single time.
I prefer to assume the best out of people, but when someone is that obviously wrong that many times with that much personal gain to come from it, I can't believe that man as smart as he is would also be that misled.
The jury is out.
