Talk about a job that can be replaced by AI in the near future.

sort by: page size:

I'm wondering what jobs, according to people on HN, are most likely to be replaced by AI in the coming years.

yeah man. for sure AI is gonna change roles and make some jobs redundant. But it will create replacement jobs, like literally every other technical advance in history.

Can someone give me an actual example of what jobs you think are going to be replaced by these AIs?

I feel like these discussions are always so high level/hand wavy

I don’t see it happening, if anything it will be more like AI helping people compete at their jobs better. Any job that could be fully replaced probably should be anyways, freeing up the person to do more difficult or lucrative or human-centric work.

a lot of jobs are being replaced by AI already... comms/copywriting/customer service/off shored contract technicals roles especially.

I’ve said it before but the first jobs that AI will displace are those of people working in AI.

People talk a lot about AI replacing a bunch of professional occupations but to some extent I've always internalized that as some futurist BS that might eventually happen.

Maybe it's going to happen a lot sooner.

I personally do not think any jobs will be except from being replaced by human-level AI. And there are many signs that this may happen within 10 years or even less.

Most of these jobs sound exactly like the types of jobs AI will replace.

A job we would be glad to have replace by an AI for sure

Your assertion that AI will render many knawledge-based jobs obsolete seems to overlook the adaptability and evolving nature of human work.

History has shown that technological advancements don't necessarily leed to job displacement but rather to job transformation. The introduction of AI could, in fact, lead to the creation of new job categories and a demand for skills that AI cannot replikate, such as creative thinking, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills.

I like your article but it sounds like a science fiction version of future rather than actual future.

I could see this happening ... in a generation. We're a long way off and tech changes quickly but the large physical plant investments in producing real products is slower. It will be some time before AI and robots are good enough to replace a lot of the labor that humans do, but I see no inherent reason that it won't happen.

Right now the main thing AI is good at is quickly generating bullshit, so those are the jobs that are going to be first to be replaced.

you'll lose your job and will be replaced by AI. Astounding?

Careful what you wish for here.

I suspect that if an AI can replace the job of a CEO then all other jobs will be gone as well.

If jobs are being replaced by AI I would think a company in IBM's position would be hiring to help offer those transitions as a product.

It is already happening. The whole deep learning thing is no joke. They cannot replace human, but can achieve close to or better than human level of performance in certain specific tasks. Before that, close to human performance is never achieved for certain tasks, and largely considered impossible in near future just 5 years ago, like image recognition/playing go/speech recognition.

It is already eliminating jobs, gradually, not overnight but steadily, and this time it is from higher above, say, Wall Street traders. It is very easy to see there is a trend out there, that data + smart algorithms is going to take over a lot decision-making processes, that currently belongs to analyst.

The theoretical limitation of AI is bullshit. We don't get know what intelligence is, how do you think we quantify and draw a line around it?

Or a job that can be automated by an AI program or robots.

No doubt. The last people to be replaced are going to be software devs (because when you can write a computer program with an AI you can make the AI write the AI and you have general AI), cleaning ladies and probably police investigators.

I love these “AI *will* replace [x] job in [y] years” genre of posts because it’s a fun thought experiment. Taken to its extreme in writing, visual art, coding, conversation bots etc.

It’s like the future will be everybody living in NvidiaBlackrockDominoes housing, eating TysonIntelJ&J gruel, and the only employer left will be TSMCOnlyFans — which will be a staffing agency for test subjects in GarnierRevlon’s automated anti-aging research facilities.
