Config/pricing pages are open now, and it looks like the Pro does match the higher-end Studio configuration. The upgrade choices and prices match too, so they top out at the same spec. Minus the tiny detail of PCIe expansion of course. Pro has a few more ports (extra HDMI and 10GbE, couple more TB4s) as well.
Yeah I'm lost too. The Pro is almost twice the price of the original chip, and afaict the only difference is that it's a little smaller (and has no USB port).
Huh?
I've got a handful of the original CHIPs, and they're great for what they are. But I don't get this "Pro".
Fascinating, thanks. I've been considering the Pro, but my current one still does everything I need it to and more so I can't justify the purchase, but this makes me a little more content with my status quo.
They probably plan on releasing a non-pro version later. Importantly, adding "Pro" also has the psychological effect of better justifying the higher price.
Pro apparently means it has an extra 100 nits and forced airflow to minimize processor throttling. It only has two serial ports and a small screen, so this was made for field use, though it does have support for a single 6K display when you get (or are confined to) home.
Might be better to go for a System76 or Dell if you can find all the apps you need for them.
"Pro" is a misnomer here, though. "Pro" normally means "with extra features for professionals", where here it means "it's more of a dev kit than it is an actual product".
